700r4 detent cable length

I am so frustrated with these stupid detent cables. I have had nothing but issues since getting this truck going. I have installed 3 new detent cables from the three big part stores, all are the cables my truck calls for as it is 100% stock (1986 K10 Silverado 305 700r4 4x4). All three of them bind up because I feel they are too long. The cable makes to many bends, but if I take the cable out of the bracket and pull it a little straighter it works just fine. It seems as though the 44.50" cable is about 4-6" too long. I have routed the cable every way I can possibly route it and it still binds. HELP!!! Does anyone have a part number for a shorter cable? The parts stores havent been very helpful.

I have a pretty much brand new universal TCI detent cable that you can have for a discount. I put it in the tranny, but never hooked it up to the carb. I ended up going with a TV made EZ system, so this is just sitting in my garage. The TCI is adjustable so it might be exactly what you need.

Try this , ACDelco 25515598 , I bought one off Amazon and it seems OK , it looks like a factory part .
