Shifter off the column?

How hard is it to take it off the tree?
How much some one charge me for it?

My rod for the tree column shifter broke (on the rod that is what your hand touches looks like a V and pushes the lifters up and down forwards and backwards for the H setup) and I would like to take it to the floor so I can put a 5 speed in later on. How much trouble is this?
