Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

Narrowed it down to the 17 x 8 vision 141 series gunmetal 6 lug wheel with a 4.5" backspace. My question is tire size... Looking at getting the widest tire I can that will fit all the way around so I can rotate my wheels and just for ease. It seems that a 255 is basically it for width for the front which means that's what I'll have to do for the back. Let me know if that is correct. Prob gonna do between a 50 and 60 series tire. Don't want any rubbing or any problems!

My truck is a '69 with 2 1/2" drop spindles stock height springs in front and 3" drop springs in the back with a '69 rear end. Baer 13" discs all around.

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

I am in the same position as Ryan above and about to pull the trigger on these wheels. Let me know if you have purchased these wheels, or wheels with the similar size and what size tires are you guys running? I don't want to have any rubbing issues and would like to run the same size tire all the way around. Thanks!

I broke down and pulled the trigger a few nights ago and ordered the wheels above. I will hopefully get tires and mount/balance within the next 2 weeks. I will keep you guys posted and send pics.

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

Sorry for the late post. I went with the gunmetal. The truck is drivable now, but still working out a lot of bugs with it. Only issue I had with the wheels is since I still have 6 lug axle in rear the hub was just slightly larger then the center bore on wheel. Since the wheels are lug centric I could have either bored out the wheels slightly (just a few millimeters) or use a spacer. I decided for the time being to swap out my wheel studs for ones that are 1/2 inch longer and used a 1/2 inch spacer.

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

Looks good. What size tire did you go with? Any rubbing? Good to know about the rear center not fitting up. Does it have enough to allow the rim to be machined?

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

Thanks. I went with 255-60-17. No rubbing at all. I think the wheels could be machined without issues, it appears to have plenty where opening up the center slightly should not be an issue.

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

We just installed these wheels on our 67. They did have to be turned by a wheel shop to fit correctly. But man they sure look nice. Went with a 265/60/17 tire.

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

265's!? And no rubbing?? That has got to be about the max on these for the front. I'm assuming you did the same all around... What kind of drop do you have? They look pretty nice btw

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

I just got some Vision wheels & tire delivered today

I went with 17/8 in front and 17/9 in rear. 255/50 front & 275/50 rear. Just a chassis with no body yet, so it doesn't really help you visualize it, but I made sure I stayed around a 27" tall tire

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

Did have a little rub issue in the front had to adjust the inner liners. Got a 2"/4" drop kit from Early Classics. Nice kit worth the money have used it on a few trucks.

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

I converted mine to 5 lug, but they are the Summit Legend wheel. I did 17x8 in the front with the 4.5" backspace and 235 55 17 and on the rear 17x9 with 5" backspace and 275 55 17.

Stepsides have very little space in the rear for tire so backspacking and axle width are super important. I have a '72 5 lug axle in my truck.

Personally, I think the smaller 235 front is a better look but wheel/tire is all just opinion...

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

Do you know what the bore size is that is required to fit a 6 lug truck? I've been looking for some rims also, seems to be limited options if you want 17, 18 or 20 inch wheels on the factory 6 lug setup.

Re: Summit 6 lug vision wheels and tire size

It's the same as a solid axle 1/2 ton 4x4. You can look up on Summits site the wheels on my truck as well as the ones the OP mentioned and see what they are.

@keel056, that is the exact size I am thinking to get on all four corners. I have a '70 fleet side that I am going to do a 2/4 drop. Still trying to work out exact disc brake/wheel/offset combination.

Any issues with rubbing in the front?
