steering wheel ID
Got this wheel from a co-worker. He had owned a '58 at one time, but is this wheel from an earlier truck? Thanks for any input.

Re: steering wheel ID
I know it is just like my 1954 Chevrolet 3100, It may fit others.

Re: steering wheel ID
Looks like 54-56. Not sure if there where any subtle changes during those years but they look the same.

Re: steering wheel ID
58-59 is dished, photo below. I also included a picture of 47 truck, note the relatively flat profile and no ribbing on the spokes.

Re: steering wheel ID
54-56 Chevy GMC . They did make a bigger version (diameter) that looks the same but larger for the bigger trucks so make sure you have the pickup diameter if you market it.

Re: steering wheel ID
FYI '57 wheel matches '58-59 pictured.

Re: steering wheel ID
57 is the one in Orries' first pic. I just saw mine out in the garage. I'm going back together with the 55 wheel, hood and grill as I don't care for the 57 grill proper to my truck.

Re: steering wheel ID
Thanks fellas. So, it's a three year wheel 54, 55, 56. Paul says they made two sizes ... so then, what's the diameter of the standard pickup wheel?
Also, I am going to put it up for sale soon. Got no responses over at WIW about worth. Debating whether to fix minor cracks and chips, and possibly repaint, or sell as found like a survivor piece. Last edited by oem4me; 01-09-2016 at 12:53 AM. |

Re: steering wheel ID
I had absolutely no idea there were two different size steering wheels for these trucks, I've never heard that before.
I have seen these at swap meets in the past for $10-$20 with cracks, and $50-$60 without cracks. |

Re: steering wheel ID
It looks like this would have made a good trivia question.

The parts catalog has the answer. My truck is an original SBC truck so the wheel matches the 58+ small version. Six cylinder Chevy trucks got the '55 - '56 version in '57. Last edited by 1project2many; 01-10-2016 at 12:30 PM. |
