4"drop from a 3"spring
How much do I cut off of a 3" drop spring to get 4" drop?

That's going to be a hard question to get answers on .It's like asking what color is white ? Different manufactures ,Varying spring tension and no one wants to give you an unintentional misleading measurement at best it's going to be a guesstimate .

If removing 1 coil on a stock spring nets about 2" then a 1/2 coil should net about 1" approximately.
However, the general line of thinking is that going with any more than a 3" spring drop only on front leads to alignment issues. The better approach is 2 1/2" or 3" dropped spindles + 1, 2" springs.

When you say "drop only on front", if I'm dropping the back 5", will that help me on alignment

He means drop spring. You're better off doing a spindle drop or a spindle/spring combo to get your desired amount of drop.
