Almost back in the K-truck club! 72 K10 Cheyenne Super coming my way...

Just finalized the deal on this truck from a board member the other day. I'd been looking for a mostly-stock '71-72 K10 or K20 for a while, since I sold my LS-swapped K10, and had figured I'd be looking into the summer at least, but then this truck was posted on the For Sale board and I couldn't pass it up. A week and a half later, things are set and I've got to figure out shipping! Can't wait to have it shipped across the country on salted roads...

1972 K10 Cheyenne Super, largely original. One repaint several years back, in original colors. Still has the original seat cover! Might have to find some steelies and dogdish caps for it. Interior looks really nice, exterior mostly nice, except for a bit of rust - nothing too worrisome. Here are a couple photos from the owner. I'll post more photos when I get the truck out here. "Super" excited!

One question: Weren't factory tachs listed on the SPID? Or were they considered part of the "Cheyenne Super Equipment" package? Or maybe it was added later...

as Tommy mentioned, tach would be on SPID if original and was not part of Super pkg. BEAUTIFUL truck, I looked at this one pretty closely myself. Asking price was a good fair price for this beauty, I think you got a great deal and a great truck. Enjoy!

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but if it travels on salty slushy roads on the trip it won't be long until everything underneath will be rusting.... Especially if the roads have had Sodium Chloride used on them.

I made the mistake of doing that once and I will never do it again. The frame had been blasted and painted but in between the spring leafs, around every nut and bolt, inside the "U" bolts, inside the frame, everywhere there was a bracket riveted to the frame was covered with rust within a week. If it travels in those conditions the first thing you want to do when you get it is take it to a car wash and spend a LOT of time washing it top to bottom, and especially underneath.....

LockDoc, I was definitely worried about that, but I figured I was being paranoid. Maybe not, huh? Well, what to do... can't leave it back east for more than a week or two, and it's not like I can time the shipping between storm systems. I figured I'd have to wash it pretty seriously after a winter trailer trip, including and especially underneath, but I'm not particularly interested in starting off the truck's life in Colorado's dry climate with a salt bath on the way here.

Anyone ever use enclosed shipping? I always see that as an option, but I just figure it's insanely expensive and only for show vehicles. But, if it's a couple hundred bucks more, it might be worth it this time of year...

I used fully enclosed when I bought my truck. It was at least a few hundred more but I had no worries whatsoever about the elements.

Way to go Joey! I never priced enclosed shipping, but may not be so awful. I mean, both open and closed trucks provide the same service. I'd expect to pay more, but shouldn't be prohibitive. I hope I'm right. You could always leave it at my place .

Tommy, good call on the tilt too, I vaguely thought about the column being black instead of blue (NOS steering wheel was added recently) but didn't think too much about it.

Nitis, plans are pretty basic - give it a good going over, make sure it's running well, and essentially leave it alone. I'll do a little triage on the few rust spots it has from spending the last few years on the East Coast (was from WA), try to stop them from spreading. I'll try to repair the few splits in the original seat cover. But other than that, I'm not planning on modernizing anything on this truck - I'd like to keep it as close to "original" as possible. Think at some point I'll look into selling or trading the rallys for some white steelies with dog dish hubcaps. Yes, I know the SPID calls for full wheel covers... eh.

Tim, thanks for looking at it for me, super helpful! Also thank you for the offer to leave it with you until the roads are salt-free. Not sure I could wait that long! I'll look into the enclosed shipping soon. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like east of the Rockies the winter hasn't really been snowy this year... so maybe the roads aren't corrosive.

That's a very nice truck!

I live in the rust belt and there is no way would I ship a truck on an open trailer on salted roads. Enclosed shipping would be worth every penny in my opinion. Rust can't be reversed and the stuff they use on the roads now a days in insidious.

I also would not recommend transport in the open at this time of the year. In December of 2015 my truck was finished being painted and I borrowed an enclosed trailer to move it back to my garage. The reason I had it painted was because the last winter I drove it, was what put it over the edge for the total rebuild. I think LockDoc said:

But it's magnesium chloride that is the real truck killer and that is what did mine in.

So far this year, no snow, no chemicals. But, could change by this weekend. They might have spread crud yesterday in busy city because they were calling for a chance of a little snow. We got a dusting up here. But between here and there has been getting hit and you can count on more

But, I still think you should consider leaving it at my place

Nice buy Joey that's a killer looking truck! I know my family lives about 30 miles from Tim and every time I talk to them all I hear is how warm it's been and untill yesterday no snow at all.(they too got a dusting) I wouldn't worry about shipping it open but that's just me. If it did go thru chemical treatment on the way here, I'm sure if you clean it well as soon as it arrives you'll be fine. Either way very nice truck!
