1976 seat in a 1985?

Are the seat tracks the same for a 1976 and a 1985? If not, can I install my 1985 tracks onto the 1976 seat?

I believe the only difference in the tracks are that the 76, the seat release will be off to the left of the seat. The 85 track, will have the seat release in the front.

You have to use your 76 tracks with your 76 seat and it will bolt right up to your 85 floor.

Re: 1976 seat in a 1985?

Thanks guys. I don't have the 1976 seat but I found one that is very nice and is the correct color for my 1985 but I didn't know if there was a difference in the floor pans or bolt holes. My seat is pretty uncomfortable, springs worn or broke and feels like I'm sitting on the frame. Didn't want to buy the seat if it wouldnt be a direct fit. Sounds like it will work fine though. Thanks.

Re: 1976 seat in a 1985?

i have a 78 in my 81 no problem with 78 tracks. only problem is seat belts have to route in between bottom and back instead of having holes in the bottom to come up through.

That's a problem I can live with if it means having a actual seat cushion to sit on.

Re: 1976 seat in a 1985?

Awhile back before I sold my 79, I was going to swap its seat into my 85 because it was way nicer. I pulled it out and noticed it wouldn't bolt right in unless swapping tracks and the guy who bought it was coming the next day to get it so I didn't have time to switch them out. Oh well, a maroon seat would't have looked good in a brown truck anyways..... Might as well just redo my current seat.

As long as the tracks you are using match the year of seat you will be fine. Not to say every year is different but I know on the newer trucks, the bolt pattern on the underside of the seat was a different configuration.

I'm not sure if the seat has the tracks or not actually. It's 2 hours away and I cant get over there til the weekend. Hopefully its still there because I need a seat badly.

Re: 1976 seat in a 1985?

I'm wanting to replace the seat in my 83 Silverado with the seat out of an 80 GMC. Will it bolt right in or do I need to change out the tracks?

Thanks.

As long as the 80 seat has the tracks, your fine, it will bolt right up. All the seats from 73-87 will bolt up to the cab floor. What makes the differenc, is that the track has to match the frame of the seat.
