tailgate rattles!
does anybody know how too get rid of it? i have bought new rubber and have adjusted latches but still rattles! is there some trick or do i just have to take the tailgate off to get it to stop? HELP PLEASE!

If you replaced the rubber bumpers and greased all the hinge points, the noise is probably coming from the two piece hinges that rattle when the tailgate is closed. With no tension on them in the up position , they tend to swing back and forth in the hinge cavity(area between the gate and bed post). You can rtv thin (1/8") rubber pads in the hinge cavity. This will give the hinges something else to hit on besides the cavity's metal sides. Worked for me. Good luck!

This is what i did to stop the rattles on my 71 fleetside tailgate. I took some rubber hose that was about 5/8 inch in diameter and cut 4 small pieces and put them where the pic shows. It was cheap and it does not show to the outside. I will attach the second pic in the next post. Have fun
