Attractive locking gas cap? Show us your gas caps! No rags!
I have my original factory cap and I polished it to a high lustre; I'm kind of worried someone will take off with it at some point. I wouldn't care -that- much but since it's my original, I either need to put a replacement on or a locking cap.
It'd be sad to have a cheap repop on there with my nice one hidden away, so if I'm going to do that I'd at least like to have a reason, and I figure a locking cap is a good idea. The ones I've seen though are all short with square shoulders. Does anyone make anything that looks at all like our originals, but with a key? Or anything attractive that suits a truck like this? Or should I find another original, polish it up too, and take my chances with the replacement?

This is a part that should be reproduced ! The cap that NAPA's offers is plain junk ! Stupid warning sticker and rubber seal is great example of unnecessary government interference and cheap Chinese rubber.....jmo....

This is the one I have. Don't remember what site I found it on but I like it and have not had problems. I found this that is very similar to your original.

It doesn't look to bad for a locking cap. |

Yep the GTSideSwipe style is one I've had a lot in the past but one I'm trying to avoid (sorry). It's OK behind a license plate but not as body art.

Thanks! I like the Summit one so far of all the ones I've looked at.

If anyone buys that United Pacific cap please let us know if it is vented. Thank you.

Re: Attractive locking gas cap? Show us your gas caps! No rags!
Good point - What the heck do I have in a 1970 C2500? Being an HD there's no cannister, and I don't recal seeing any kind of vent line, so I assume the cap has to be. Does anyone know?
I've seen a truck with the tank bowed out like a balloon, expanding the cab into the bed, from the wrong type of cap!

How did you go about polishing it? Is it aluminum? If so, I'm going to go ahead and do my original one too, as it's in nice shape.

Re: Attractive locking gas cap? Show us your gas caps! No rags!
I think it's stainless. I put a bolt into the vent on the back, then chucked it in a drill, then worked it into sandpaper sitting on a bed of rags (for the curvature of the cap).
I went up progressively by grit in 10 steps or so and then polishing wheel. Here's a picture somewhere around 60-100 grit (it was really beat up, 40-year old original).

Still have the stock one on my C-10. Have that Summit cap shown on my GTO for years and have had zero issues with it.
This one looks good if you want some bling. http://www.classychevusa.com/index.c...20/prd1620.htm

Re: Attractive locking gas cap? Show us your gas caps! No rags!
I was going to say someone needs to reproduce the GM accessory locking caps. That's the only one I would run on my trucks. I took the one off my truck because I didn't need it and not worth risking lock screwing up, losing key, etc.

Re: Attractive locking gas cap? Show us your gas caps! No rags!
I just ordered two from Summit, for 10 bucks each. A little security and piece of mind. I'll only use them when they're in their winter storage, which only happened as of last Saturday's snow storm.
