Hate to ask but need to identify my rear axle
I'm looking to purchase some new axles to convert my 6 lug to a 5. My truck is a bit of a Frankenstein as the previous owner used several donner trucks. This is my problem. The rolling chassis is a 69 and the cab etc is a 70. The numbers I can make out are:
NF38..... And I can't find that combo on this website. http://www.348-409.com/differential.html Help! |

Re: Hate to ask but need to identify my rear axle
Found somebody else looking for a stamp code:
nf3896838 Pretty sure that's mine also. Says it's from a 70. Can anyone confirm that? |

Try this link, it has all the charts. I don't see your code and it doesn't sound like a 67-72 code. Are you looking on the top of the passenger side tube?

Re: Hate to ask but need to identify my rear axle
axle code you are looking for is on passenger side of axle ,I have found stampings on these rears vary a little , they are in line so to speak with your stock shock mount , sometimes behind the shock mount sometimes 2-3 inches closer to the diff housing ,but in that general area

Re: Hate to ask but need to identify my rear axle
Being a 70 axle it could be a different length. 67-late 69 and early build 70 trucks had a narrow axle housing. Late 70 on up had a wider housing. Measure between the inside edges of the brake backing plates. The early housing will be 55.5" long. The later housing is 57"
If you're ordering axles and have 67-70 55.5" housing you want the 30.5" long 5 lug axles. If it's the 57" housing you need 31 5/16" axles.
