New to the site, first post.

I'm putting my 67 lwb Chevy c10 on a 68 k10 chassis. Would like to install a 327, 700r4 and a np208 or np205. My question is which is preferred, I'm not off-roading, just hauling firewood, mulch, and classic parts. Would like the transfercase shifter to look stock as possible coming up through the floor. Using a factory auto steering column. Anyone built this combo before?

If you want to go with an NP205 then you want the adapter from a 70s th350-to-NP205. This will use 4 bolts to the 700r4 tail (same as th350) and "racetrack" or "figure 8" pattern for most np205 transfer case's (excluding the round pattern 205)

If you want to go with an NP205 or NP241 then use the adapter that was originally used with a 700r4 and one of the transfer cases. I believe that there are two styles. One has a short foot for use on the W shaped crossmember and one with a taller foot for use on the flat drop crossmembers.
I can take pictures of these various parts and send them to you if you are interested.

Supposedly the NP205 is stronger than the NP205 since it is gear driven. But for the use you stated I think you'd be fine with the 208. Other factors to consider are that the 208 is half the weight of the 205. But the 208 is longer longer than 205 and can only use a slip yoke. If you were to find an np241 it will bolt on like a 208 but you can buy an (expensive) adapter to convert to fixed yoke.

Thanks for the reply, any pics would be great. This is my first 4x4 project, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Is there a shifter for the 208 that looks like a factory 67-72 shifter?

I went with a NP208 -- I believe it is a 28 spline for the 350/700r4 trans. NP208's came on many 700r4's so it is a natural unless you plan on serious rock crawling.

I did use a Ford knob that had the correct pattern for a NP208/241 shifter. I modified a NP241 shifter.

If you have the 208 or can get one free use it. If you have to buy one I would use a 205. They will both do what you want.
