dual exhuast questions

Did 67-72 come from the factory with dual exhaust?
I'd like to install dual exhaust as original to factory as possible.
Who out there sells a stainless steel set-up?
Thanks Nick

Re: dual exhuast questions

Only the big block trucks came from the factory with dual exhausts.

Re: dual exhuast questions

If you are going to run original exhaust manifolds I'd recommend getting a set of these NOS exhaust donuts and look the seller is in New Jersey as well.

This might be difficult to answer but what did these trucks sound like when they were new? Were they quieter than today's typical set up with dual exhaust and flow masters?

Very quiet actually. The 350 with single exhaust sound was pretty much like any normal sedan or factory exhaust gas truck today. You could hardly hear the exhaust at idle and no rumble under acceleration.

Here are the mufflers I used and I wanted the same sound on my truck as you have described as wanting on your truck and with these mufflers that is what I have.

If there's no audio clip, it never happened

Re: dual exhuast questions

If you are looking for factory looking crush bent pipe, walker has 2.25 tailpipes that are replacement for 82 and up 6.2 diesel trucks . If you have a leaf spring truck they go right on. The 6.2 had factory duals. I have used them on a couple trucks One side is universal for single pipe trucks and like 30$ and other is around 50$.

Re: dual exhuast questions

I'm not looking to be 100% stock, I just figured anything close would be easier to install. I'm using stock exhaust manifolds, on my 1967 327. I'm not looking for a modified dual sound. I'm looking for more of a factory duel sound. More like casual car and not a hot rod. If that makes any sense. Thanks guys for your help. Nick

When I had my exhaust redone I told the muffler shop I wanted it to sound like a dual exhaust 4bbl carb non muscle car or truck V8 sounded whenI wa growing up in the 50's and 60's and early 70's. That is what they gave me. My mufflers are a huge part of the sound and are Dynomax Super Turbos , 20 inches long. I have a 72 with a stock 350 with rams horn exhaust and 2 1/4 inch pipes front to back. I'd send you a video clip of my truck idling so you could hear the sound but its in storage until at least Mid-April.
