factory spec sheet under bench sheet...

Who knows about these?

While cleaning my 71 yesterday I found this crumbling old sheet of paper wedged between the foam and bottom wiring of my bench sheet. I did the best I could to pull it out in large pieces, but after putting the puzzle together last night, I know I missed some chunks.

I have about 80% of it and it seems to be some sort of delivery sheet, listing all of the options and specifics about this truck when it either rolled out of the plant or was delivered to the dealer.

I really wish I had the entire thing intact, but something is better than nothing! Where were these trucks made/delivered on the west coast in the early 70's?

That is the build sheet and is nice to find. Most trucks in CA, AZ, etc were build in Freemont, CA. If your VIN has a Z in it, it's a Freemont built truck

Thanks, yes I did find Fremont noted on it.

Fremont is near San Francisco, about 90 minutes west of Sacramento. Yet this truck was sold and spent most of its life in the Los Angeles area, until coming back up north here several years ago.

So it is a build sheet. I taped it together like an old treasure map. It is all brown and falling about, put in a plastic bag...need to scan it soon.

What all can this build sheet tell me? I saw options and codes, many codes. How can I learn what the codes mean?

For the best part, you won't be able to de-code quite a bit of the stuff on there.
Looking at many many sheets is about teh only way to figure things out.
The options listed there is what the assembly line was told to do. Mine has an option listed on there (and in the glove box too) that never got installed. It called for the west coast Jr mirrors, but they never made it on there.
you can get the dealer's name and addy (is the dealer still there? If so, a crisp 50 dollar bill might get a sales guy in the attic looking for old papers if it is a slow week.) The original owner's name can be on there...but most don't get that.
Lots of interesting things on there.
I have the one to the one ton, but none of my others have been found.

I found mine, several years ago, at the bottom of the ['68 stepside] passenger's door. It was yellow and crumbly and in small 1" bits like the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Originally sold by Felix Chevrolet in LA, built at Fremont and I bought it used in Pasadena in '73. They did remember to install my West Coast Jr's though.
Last night, as I was troubleshooting the electric seat from a '69 T Bird (I traded my bench and $20 for it with an old Sgt at Yuma in '77), I pulled off the drivers'seat back and there was the '69 f@rd (11/68) build sheet. So I now know the VIN of the wrecked T Bird my buddy yanked it out of. Also found out the seat style is called a "split bench."

Its usually attached to the back of the seat between the webbing and the foam. We see alot of them in AZ in good shape. It cool to find it there and read about what the truck was originally.

Mine was in the back of the seat. It was also built in fremont in 68. Most of it is intact. It was actually in pretty good shape. Fun to look at.
