Hood Hinges
I need to replace the hood hinges on my 71 and I was wondering who has the best replacements or is there a place to get NOS hinges? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt

Re: Hood Hinges
I personally haven't heard of hinge problems, but I looked through several sets of factory hinges I got with my truck and a few parts trucks until I found a set that was tight, and didn't show signs of wear. Don't forget to stuff the inside of your springs with foam rubber tubing( these trucks were known for a strange "tuning fork" sound coming from under the hood, come to find out, it was the hinge springs vibrating......crazy huh?

Re: Hood Hinges
I just had mine rebuilt by Willie at HoodHinges. I do not have any before pics but they're 43 year old slightly worn out hinges. The back of my hood wasss ticking up about 1/2 and inch because the hinges were worn. As a footnote Willie is a great guy and even answers the phone.

Re: Hood Hinges
i used a shop press and squeezed the rivits. its a little tricky to set up but works great if your hinges are not too far gone.

Re: Hood Hinges
I'll have to find the article I read and post it here, makes sense because the springs are stretched when the hood is down..

Re: Hood Hinges
I 2nd Willie! great guy, great work and great new hinges after they are done. I have never herd about the sound stuff but I do keep a rag inside the springs for oil dip stick when checking the level.

Re: Hood Hinges
Already Gone, curious, do you get your own hinges back rebuilt or get a set pulled from the shelf and your hinges become "cores"? Asking because when my '71 4x4 was re-stored I spent quite a bit of time playing with the hinges to get the hood to "pop" up when the hood latch is released. I drilled couple small holes in each hinge base to locate the hinge position if ever need to remove the hood. My driver side hinge has a bit of a twist. Does Willie straighten hinges as he rebuilds them? Remember what the $$ was to re-build?

Re: Hood Hinges
Shop press is fine, but when they rivet holes are egg-shaped, re-pressing will not work. Never helps with an alignment issue.

Re: Hood Hinges
Installed a new set of hood hinges and all is well again. No more hood setting high in the rear and hood pops up in the front like it should. Thanks everyone for the info and help.

Re: Hood Hinges
I guess I got lucky. I replaced both hinges with replacements from Brothers Trucks in Norco and had no problems.
