Has anyone tried this?

I have a 1954 chevy 235 in a 1946 ton chassis that I want to change to a sm465 on the existing bellhousing. I read that I should be able to have the bellhousing retainer hole enlarged to 5.00 inches and the sm 465 bearing retainer machined down to 4.995. Anyone know of any insurmoutable problems with using a sm465 on this? I do not want to use a 55-62 6 cylinder housing that would also have to be machined as we want to retain the orig clutch and linkage.

thanks
