The struggle...is real
As most on here know our trucks are very bad about fogging up the windows in a cold rain. I drive mine pretty much all the time rain are shine.
Here lately I have been thinking about this more. I'm wanting to just disconnect the normal AC switch on the backside where the cable makes contact with it to turn the compressor on and mount a AC switch in the dash above are beside the key switch so I can run the compressor no matter what setting I'm in. Does anybody know of a thread that this has been done? Seems it would be pretty simple to do right. Take the leads off the compressor switch now and run to a dash mounted switch that is also lite so you know when it's on. You would turn it off anytime the windows aren't fogging and on when they are. I'd say mount a small micro switch next to the lever arm on the defrost diverter, that should do the trick.....

My friend has his Camaro set up this way. He just mounted a switch in his console. His was done more out of ease to setup.
I think you would want to make sure your fan is on to move air over your evaporator or it will freeze up. You could grab power from your fan switch so it would only be on when the fan was running as a safeguard. Just a thought.

Does the A/C not come on with the defrost? My truck didn't come with A/C so I can't check mine. What about setting it up so that the A/C comes on with the defrost like modern cars.

I would simply wire the new switch in parallel with the existing compressor switch mounted on the evap box. This way, regardless of new/added switch position, the compressor would only activate if the blower switch is on. Also, the original switch would still work as intended if the added switch was in the off position. All you are really trying to do is over-ride the off or open position of the factory plunger switch.

That is exactly what the old air tech told me to do to fix my suburban from completely filling with fog. Glad i got a answer finially

Thanks for the replies guy's, sorry been at the beach all weekend with no internet. I'm going to take the wires loose of the factory plunger switch and just have a hand held switch to test with and see if it works like I want it to. If it does then I will hard mount it.
Yes the only time it can be on is when the fan switch is on. That's how it works now.
