tailgates
Well, it finally happened, someone ran into the back of my truck.
It wasn't bad, smashed my roll pan, and scratched up my tailgate. Since the guys' insurance company was going to fix it, I decided to buy a brand new tailgate from Mar-K. well the new tailgate has a dent. almost in the middle. So I contacted the vender, and they are going to decide what to do. I was thinking that I might find someone out there who might just bondo the ding, and use it, since it is brand new for a reduced price....I'm thinking$50 off the new price, but I'm not the vender. The pic of the new one is exaggerated by my phone since I blew it up so the vender could see it. Then I was thinking that someone else might want to buy my old tailgate, and use it, since it almost escaped getting scratched. It has a couple little dings that are hard to see. So I am including pics of the two tailgates, and let you guys mull it over. I paid $300 for the new tailgate, and I am thinking $150 for my old one, because it is basically straight and no rust.... I think that the vender would be happy if I found him a buyer, but I don't know how you guys feel about this stuff.

Re: tailgates
I'd think that someone who is good with a stud gun dent puller could take that out pretty easily. At least to the point where it only needs a skim coat of pookie.
Price wise, I don't have anything to compare to. At today's prices I think you would probably get some takers at a swap meet for that price though.

Re: tailgates
Well I bought new because my old one has a couple little dings. you cant see them in the pic, because they are so small.
They have bothered me for about 40 years. I figured that "here's my chance!" and the new one is worse than the old one. One difference between the new and the old is the spot welds are larger in diameter, but for the most part, identical, and of the same gauge steel. The metal differences between them is the inside ribs at the end are thicker on the new one than the old one. Haven't tried fitting the new one, but up against the old one, the new one is a good copy.

Once you decide on a price, since you're a subscribing member, you can list in the parts for sale section.
Just a reminder to all, this is not the for sale section. The OP is just asking for opinions.

Re: tailgates
Update:
The tailgate vender is shipping me and additional tailgate without dents. So I will have 3. Keeping the newest one.

Re: tailgates
I would save the old and mount it on the wall.

Talked with the great folks at Mar-K and they sent out a new one double wrapped and boxed damage free but required the carrier to pick up damaged gate in return. Just my two cents worth !! JT from SC |
