Starter whine

So I had the usual heat sink starter issue and after much research picked up the camaro/corvette starter as a replacement. Looks exactly like the stock one bolted right in, no problems but did have the whine after the motor turned over. So I started adding shims, all three shims are in and still does the whine for a second after starting. I could try cutting the shims and only shimming the inner bolt for more distance but the mounting instructions said not to add more than the three shims included which don't seem to cut it for mine.

Re: Starter whine

Just to clarify, the whine sound seems to be the starter taking just a second too long to disengage after the engine turns over. I'm going to pull the flywheel inspection cover and check the gap when I get a chance
