My new truck for your assessment
I haven't posted much but I am a long time reader of this forum. After a long search for the right truck at the right price and condition, I found this 62 C20 Stepside.
She sports the great 235 6 and a 4 speed. It is very low optioned and looks to be in nearly original condition except for the radio which has a Chrysler emblem on it. There does not seem to be any butchering of the truck at all by any previous owner. I'm going to do something out of the ordinary for me. I'm going to refurbish it to it's original condition except for the brake MC and the paint. It will get a dual circuit braking system and the paint and body I will try to keep in an arrested state of decay. If anyone sees something in the photos that does not seem to be original to a 62 C20, please chime in.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
More pics and the reason for the patio/bumper. The camper pics were taken by the man I bought the truck from when he picked it up about 4 years ago. That door mat is bolted to the bumper.

More - Original wood in bed. Camper was on the truck from 1969-2012.

And more - Found that handy fold up step when inspecting the spare tire.
Also, can anyone tell me if those 17.5 tubeless wheels and the hubcap are 1962 correct. No rot in either cab corner.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
Nice find. You don't see many trucks with there original bed wood still intact. I hope you decide to keep it there. Also love the plain Jane look.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
Those original hubcaps are hard to find.
Super nice truck. I'll say the west coast mirrors were a dealer add on. I'll go through a 62 Accessories book to verify. Give it a bath then think about new paint.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
The GM Approved seat belts were made by the Irving Airchute Company. In 63, which were similar to the 62, the difference was the webbing. Same as the rear seat passenger car belts.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
The wheels should be Pure White like the rest of the truck, could it be the paint has been sun bleached off to the primer?
Tail light are not in the correct position, usually found midway up.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
Wow that truck is incredibly clean and rust free! Looks just like my 62 stepside longbed except mine has a ton of rust and it's a c10 not a c20

Re: My new truck for your assessment
Thanks everyone.
Aerotruk63, thanks for tips. The wheels were painted red but now very faded. And there is black underneath the red. Not sure why the tail lights are mounted so high. But that will be corrected with new lights and wiring. None of the rear lights work. Also will need reverse lights.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
I dig those big 3/4 ton wheels and caps that stick way out! What supports all that rear bumper? No oil filter? I thought by 1960 all engines were filtered from the factory.
What was your Custom Camper like? Would love to see it, too.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
On a solid white truck the wheels from the factory are black . If it were two toned they would be the main body color. Nice to see such an original truck and so straight to. Not that many 62s that I see especially with all the correct wheels and hubcaps still in place. Nice find !

Re: My new truck for your assessment
Just noticed this thread, a thread that did not seem to get my attention earlier. This truck is a winner! The type us purists like to find, unaltered originals, yeah, even with original wheels and caps! In my book, condition always trumps options or year of manufacture. IMO, 95% of '62 3/4 ton stepsides out there today will not be as clean and original as this one. What makes you think it is a 235? Chevy painted the big 6's green. Its obviously not the 292, I am positive you have the very desirable 261 under that hood.

Re: My new truck for your assessment
Unfortunately, no 261 in this truck. By the numbers on the block, this is a 235. I don't believe the 261 was available for the C10-C30 trucks, at least here in the states.
