Adjusting drum brakes on my 62'
Does anyone know the correct procedure used to adjust these drum brakes? I (as far as I know) still have the original 4 wheel drum set up. I did a quick look and didn't see any of the adjuster wheels that I use to have on my truck 30 years ago. Should this truck have a "window" somewhere with an adjuster wheel inside? Thanks.

Re: Adjusting drum brakes on my 62'
hello I have always adjusted them to have a slight drag adjust all 4 with the same amount esp the front you don't want any pulls to either side.. don't remember if my 60 had windows but im pretty sure it did because factory drums were riveted to hub and that would have been a pain to adjust I know my 61 3/4 ton had the windows good luck. and yes it should have the adjuster wheels but no self adjusting hardware.

Sometimes the windows have a snap in block off plate in them to prevent the entry of mud and road grime.

Ok, I'll grab a flashlight and creeper and look a little better. I guess my next question is how do you know which direction to spin the adjusters? will there be a direction arrow maybe?

on the 65 C10 im doing the adjustment hole is in the drums , not in the backing plate.
and the front drums were riveted to the hub. |

From the backside, I believe that you try to get the cogs from the top and roll the wheel downward.

That's correct. That motion will expand and tighten the shoes against the drum.
Just did mine so its fresh in my mind. |
