I'd like to know this too - seems too good to be true that these manifolds can actually be purchased at a reasonable price.
Cast iron quality must vary a lot depending upon the skill of the maker.. but what do I know. |

Re: Anybody here know if Dorman exhaust manifolds are good?
I have used a couple several years ago. I recall they bolted right up and fit just like the factory units. The only negative thing I remember was the casting finish. Not that bad though. I just took a sanding disk to them to clean them up and to remove the part numbers and the profanity word (China) off them then painted them with some high temp manifold paint.
Once you switch back to ramhorns you will wonder why you ever had headers in the first place.

I run Dormans on my 67 bbc --no issues yet. I do not tow -- I remember on the 366 tow trucks at work, the heat would crack the oem's eventually.
But I too got tired of headers and like the stock look, fit, and room in engine bay.

What exactly is there about headers to get "tired of"? I am buying a 1972 350 engine and it is equipped with headers.

Re: Anybody here know if Dorman exhaust manifolds are good?
They take up more room, have more clearance issues, and make changing spark plugs incredibly difficult. Many people also mention that their bolts back out over time and they have trouble getting rid of exhaust leaks.
This is pure speculation but I suspect they run hotter near the head which causes issues near the spark plug wires.

Re: Anybody here know if Dorman exhaust manifolds are good?
I had a set of dorman manifolds on my LS silverado for about 5 years (sold it). They looked and fit like OEM and never leaked. I'd give their ram horns a try.

Re: Anybody here know if Dorman exhaust manifolds are good?
I have one on a 72. It fit perfect but as mentioned the finish was not as good as OE. When I blasted it to apply a coating there was some filler in some of the imperfections.

Re: Anybody here know if Dorman exhaust manifolds are good?
I just put a set on my truck last week, like many have said they are not the best looking out of the box but bolted up real easy and the gaskets that came with seemed good too. Got them from summit, left was like $90 and right was $80 or so

I hate headers too..........I just bought these to replace the leaky headers on my '70 K5
they look good...smooth casting and the machining is good quality as well..... will be installing them within the next week or so. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g9200n

Re: Anybody here know if Dorman exhaust manifolds are good?
I've been loving mine for several years now. I went with a set of the 2.5" center dump ram horns for my 4x4 Blazer. NO LEAKS!! This is especially important if you run EFI, and exhaust leaks wreak havoc with the A/F ratio readings.
