Recreating Dad's 62 C10

Hey Y'all,

Along with my 1981 C10 project I have going on, I have begun to put more attention to the recreation of my Dad's high school truck, a 1962 C10 that him and his dad built.

To begin, here are some photos of my dad's 62 back in the day:

To this "resurrection", I purchased a 1962 C10 Stepside that was my neighbors truck as I grew up. After he passed in a car accident, the truck sat for over 8 years until I was able to pick it up.

This are the photos from the day I went to ask it his mom would sell me the truck:

After settling on a reasonable price, I took my younger brother to pick the truck up with me. Along with the body, I got the 283 (from a 70s model) and 3 transmissions (1 power glide and 2 turbo 350s). I was happy with the purchase price (but came with a Bill of Sale). I am okay with the Bill of Sale due to knowing where the truck came from. No worries on it being stolen. Knew the lady for years.

Overall, the truck is in good condition. Drip rail has rust, but floors, rockers and cab corners are solid.

I started rebuilding the 283 with my dad:

Wow you are really moving along! Nice decision picking up the solid cab, much easier than trying to repair that rust. Keep us posted, and good luck!

Thanks! But don't be too fooled...started this about 9 months ago. Just now building the thread to help motivate me. I am excited to take the deeper dive into.

Wow, you're on it. Even the hurt toe doesn't slow you down.
Like the direction things are going. I started on mine back in 2011 with the idea I'd be driving next summer.

Thanks! This forum is for sure serving as great motivation. Plan this week is to prep the 1970 C10 LWB to sell to free up some cash to dive in deeper with the 62.

Well, I spent the week getting the 1970 c10 ready to sell. Already had some hits on it. This was my great grandfathers truck. original AC cab truck. Sad to see it up for sale, but have to pick and choose my projects. It will help fund the 5.3 LS and tranny I found for the 62. I will be keeping the slotted mags for now to put on the 62. The original wheels for the 70 are currently on the 62 from when I picked it up.

Crazy that after sitting for 2 years, all it took was some fresh gas and carb cleaner to get this puppy fired up in under 10 minutes.

I also was able to snap some better shots of the fleetside bed that came with my parts truck. Will be hard to see that awesome tailgate go. Dig the color so much! Straps are just holding the bed on the frame right now. (don't worry, not too tight)

Well, so far this week has been good in regards to getting some parts sold in order to fund the LS. Sold a turbo 350 tranny and this power-glide pictured below. I have a few more parts/tools I am throwing up on the internet today. Hoping the 70 will gain some serious buyers...over the tire kickers.

Well, Saturday was a busy day. Showed the 70 to 4 different guys. Realized there is a spark plug broken so currently running less cylinders. Still runs strong though. Hope to sell soon!

Also was able to sell my orange fleetside bed, 2 front fenders from the first 62 I bought (a purchased some rust free ones a couple weeks back), side cowls and the cowl under the windshield. Guy and his son came down from OK. They are building a bagged 64 for his 13 year old son. Was awesome to see the little man excited about it all.

Excited for some more change toward the LS engine!!

Here are pics after I got the fenders off. One the PO had welded the bottom...guess he ran out of bolts.
