A Rare Bird Flies Home

After a lot of looking over the past six months I have finally joined the ranks of 1967-72 C-10 owners with a truck that is an uncommon variant, a 1971 SWB BB Cheyenne. The truck needs a thorough sorting out but appears to be a very solid candidate for a high-quality restoration. It looks to have had a mediocre one 20 years or so back and has been driven a lot since so it is due up for another makeover.

The truck has a bashed-in drivers door and the marks of a bad trailer hookup on the tailgate along with a few other things, including a bad replacement seat and tilt steering column. However, the SPID is a lengthy one and the C-10 started life per the SPID as a white/ochre/white/ochre so it would be quite eye-catching in its original paint configuration. The truck is going into storage after a front-to-back evaluation by my restoration shop until they finish my 1971 GMC Jimmy (also ochre, it is my destiny) which still has some expensive work left to do.

My life is already better since I am now liberated from scouring Craigslist and dealing with the interesting sellers there. We will see what the future holds for my new baby but I am very pleased and thankful to have found such a good example for my one and only C-10.

Nice find. That's one thing I wish I had, was the BB. I agree, go back to original paint scheme.

Saw that one in CL, your pics look much better than the listed. Truck looks really good. I like your plan also. Good luck!
