Frt. Brake ?'s
I am working on a 70 C10 frt. 6 lug setup that my local 4 auto parts stores & all of my 8 truck restoration catalogs cant seem to help me with finding these parts. First part is a frt. brake shoe anchor pin " flat locking washer" that is indexed as to not allow it to turn when the washer is bent up to the anchor pin to a locking position, pic shows it. Second part is a "cork gasket" that when your backing plate is mounted to the Spindle just be for you install the frt. wheel Hub there was a cork gasket in place which wood stop any thing from entering inside the seal & bearings area. pic shows it. Any help would be great in finding these parts. thank you.

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
Come on guys this can't be that hard we all have gone through this part of the brake system in restoring our trucks. I know some have gone to a newer Disc System/ After Market stuff but there is still some of us that want to just be "stock" you know.
****I have to get for this truck a Official Brake and Light Certificate so this has to be right**** |

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
You should be able to cut the cork washer from sheet cork, just using the right diameter circles.

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
NOT REALLY looking for a "I made it" part, don't want to raise a RED flag with the DMV's Official Brake and Light Inspection Station person. Would like the Original parts so I can have a smooth inspection. I don't know how closely he will look at my stuff so if it looks Factory made then I am in the clear. My thoughts on the hand made gasket is that it has to fit real tight and hand cutting one won't give a real tight seal.

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
check out part number 903-6072dbpk (Disc Brake Drop Spindle Backing Plate Kits) on early classics website it has the gaskets in this kit. Maybe call and see if you can buy some gaskets separate.
I bought my brake kit from them and I believe the gaskets are rubber. |

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
Try contacting DLtruck1973 on the forum, he parts out trucks. Some of the rear are no longer produced from what i read, could be the same for the front.

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
Thanks Tom for responding here. I only need two (2) of the Flat Index'able Washers and two (2) of the Cork Gasket (mines cork). the cork gaskets ID is 2" and the width of it is .300 or 5/16" putting its OD at about 2.600 or 2 5/8". How am I doing so far? LOL

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
The inspector is just looking for a safe system. They don't require all new parts. Usually pops the drums and measures the shoe thickness and drum diameter. He'll also check wheel cyl for leaks and soft hose cond.

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
Yeah, it's understandable, best of luck and hopefully a short search.

Re: Frt. Brake ?'s
I have been working on Chevy cars and trucks since I was 16 and now I'm......well for a long time. I've never once seen a gasket like that behind a brake drum. The grease seal keeps dirt out and grease in.I totally understand you want it to be 100% but I don't think any inspector is even going to know that there's supposed to be a gasket in there at all. If you can get it no problem, if not don't sweat it.
