15x8 street tire size options

Help please.

I have been trying to determine what size 50 or 60 series tires will fit on my 15x8 aluminum wheels. The 275/60/15's on there now (all the way around) were "OK" before I dropped it, and they are still actually OK in the rear...but the front, it has to change.

My Summit catalogue seems to indicate that a 225/60 is the smallest appropraiet size. I'm not sure what my 50 series options are. Went to a tire store today, got one answer. Went to a parts store tha sells/installs tires and got another (3rd) answer.

A 255 would be good, would not go smaller than 245. Might want to use something like a 255/70 for the front, would be about the same height as the rear so you would not add more rake. Though some people like it I dont.

One thing you need to concider is how the truck sits right now and if you want it to sit the same or if you want more or less rake, which will be effected by the tire diameter.

I have 295/50's on 15x8 rims. They were difficult to get on but they will fit.

I should have noted that I want the fronts to be lower profile than the rear, and more narrow if possible. That's why I was thinking of a 50 series tire, or 60.

As for the 295/50's that are not easy to install. I am assuming that's because they are VERY wide, no? I am not looking for a wider than the rim look to the tire/sidewall. I'd like a tire that would be shorter and not as wide as the 275's that are on there now.

I have 275/60-15 tires on the back of my truck, and 255/60-15's on the front, all on 15x8 wheels.

Looks great, gives the tires kind of a big 'n little look to them

Yeah? Funny, my truck closely resembles yours too! Same colors. You don't happen to have a side shot of your truck do you?

I'm still thinking that I'd at least like to get a 225/60 or 235/60 if I end up staying with a 60 series tire.

I don't think that 235/60's will fit on an 8" wheel.... IMO If you go with a 235/60 I would probably go with a 7" wheel up front at the widest.

These are 275/60 in the back and 235/60 in the front. The 235 is too small of a tire. I hated it as soon as I bolted them on. On my current truck I'm running 245/60 because thats what's in the stance photos at Early Classic website, and I thought it looked okay in the picture.

Hmmm....

Well in the 80's on my first car (Maverick Grabber with a 302) I put 235/60's and liked them. As for the research on the sizes, I've seen it indicated in three places that the 225/60 will fit an 8" wide rim. The regular info I am getting is that the 225 will fit a 6"-8" wide rim and the 275 will fit a 7.5"-9.5" wide rim.

I'm looking to drop the size of the front tire (height) by at least one inch. the difference between these two is on average 1.28" which would also help me with some clearance matters. The 3" coil drop I have in the front (along with the 2.5" spindle drop) makes the 275's still rub inside the fenders on hard unexpected hits.

The sidewall difference calculated between the 245 and 275 figures only to be .71" on average. So I'll probably stick with my 235-225 idea.
