Would like your opinion
In the past few months, a select few have joined the board and taken it upon themselves to make their own rules. I have been posting for about 3 years and bought thousands of $ worth of parts and several trucks from some really great guys. I have also sold several trucks and had happy buyers. I always try to provide as many pictures of anything I sell and a discription of the truck or parts as best as I can. I also have been known to throw in a few free extras to make the deal a bit better in some cases. As of recent, I have been PM'ed by a few new members telling me that I have F***ed them because I didn't wait long enough for them to respond to a add and have sold to the next person. I feel that attitude isn't called for as I feel I have always given anyone a fair shake at buying parts from me and myself at buying anything from them. I have been beat out of some really great deals in the past , but I have not replied to the other people in the thread by telling them to "get a life" or how I F***ed one of their buddys out of anything. I, myself resent being PM'd by these new kids blasting me as to how I choose to sell my parts. I always try to sell to the first post, but, if I get no reply in a timely manner, I go on to the next. I feel that is my choice. My prices are fair and I try to keep by the rules.
Im 30 seconds away from posting a few names of the new kids on the block that do nothing but try to whine about missing out because they didnt act in a timely manner and then blast me for being an a**hole. I have all the PM's saved and they are rather rude. I admit that after a few blasts from them, I then give them back a taste of their own crap. Right or wrong, I feel that a PM is just that.. A "private message" and should not be posted as public record. Sorry about the long post but I just want some opinions from some of the people who have been here a long time. Correct me if Im wrong and Ill do what it takes to make my selling practices within the guidelines. |

I think you should buy a case of pacifiers and send one as a gesture of good will. What more could be given to a bunch of babies that refuse to conduct themselves as men.

I think you are right. There are no contracts that say that the person who "bids" first shall be the purchaser. The seller has FULL control of whether or not the part sells to who ever he or she pleases. Now there should be time allowed for the purchase, I would think that 24hrs is the max time allowed and if the seller does not receive a "agreement sale notice in some form" within this time frame, that the seller has the full right to allow someone else to purchase the item they are selling. People are going to complain about things when they do not get the sale their way. For these people be prepared for the reckoning if you post a negative post about a sale that didn't go your way because you failed to contact the seller with in 24hrs. JMO everyone

If you go to a swap meet and you are looking at a part and someone with cash comes up and says they want it, do you think he is going to turn down a sale. In the real world the guy with the money gets to play, the rest can just go home and cry to mommy.

Phillip - how long do you consider a "timely manner" to be, regarding response time?

my personal opinion is that if you respond to somebodys for sale post that you want the part you should be able to send the moneyorder out to them within 24hours and it should be recieved within5-7 days, again my opinion if you ain't got the money you ain't shoppin you're dreamin

Missing out on deals really sucks. I missed out on a front sway bar for really cheap because i was off the board for a few days. I don't resent the seller doing that, he had to get rid of the parts.
I also agree that there should be a 24 hour period, unless the buyer requests that you wait before selling the part. I have had 4 transactions over the board so far, and all of them went smoothly. No complaints. Most people on here are honest and fairdealing.....but not everyone. I have been on here for almot 2-1/2 year now though. I would have a hard time dealing with someone who has 25 posts and not worrying that i will get screwed out of money or a good part.

Yes, I agree, 24 hours is enough time. I also feel that I should have a say in who I sell or not sell to. In that case, when the money order comes, the part will then go out. The 7 day US mail waiting time will apply. If after 7 days, its up for sale again. ive also thought of back up offers. If their money order comes first and the 7th day hits and still no reply from the first guy, the part goes to the one with the payment sent and when and "if" the money comes from the first guy, it will be returned within 24 hours or next business day. No need for PM's and name calling. Business is business and Like I have said before. Im here for helping fellow members and building my own trucks. As for the money, that is just a bonus for playing with trucks.

First come, first serve. Thats how it works. And i DO reserve the right to not want to sell to someone for ANY reason i choose.
I sometimes put vehicles out for sale in front of my house. For myself, and for others. I post a price on the windsheild, and you can choose to dicker from there. Same with on this board. Price it, dicker if you can. Or pay the price. Sometimes someone stops to look at one of my vehicles and i automaticlly know i dont want to sell to them. ITS MY WORLD AND I DO WHAT I WANT.

$ talks, BS walks. I've had mostly positive dealings with board members. There are always some guys who want things yet don't have the money and are too embarassed to say so, so they just let the seller hang. I like the 24hour response thought. That is a reasonable time to solidify the deal. Now if I could just come up with some $$ for a rust free Blazer----
Can you shoot me a picture of every possible part and from 4 angles. would you take 1/2 of what you are asking? How much down would that be? Would you finance the deal? WHAT, surface rust under the rug?!! Does that include shipping? |

Sounds like you are being more than fair & reasonable in your deals. Unfortunately, there are some very childish & irresponsible people out there. I haven't bought or sold on this board, but I have responded to F/S posts on a couple other boards, only to have some sellers fail to answer, or try to mislead me. Frustrating indeed.

Like you said in the beginning of your post, sound as though you were confronted by people who were inexperienced in making deals. Let Josh handle it if need be and let it be a life lesson to them. Two criteria I use when I make a purchase 1. Do I want/ need the item? 2. Do I have the money for the item +/- negotiation? Once those are met contact seller set up arrangements, if not dont pass go dont collect 200 dollars go staright to jail.

I just want everyone to know that I enjoy the heck out of this board. With all I know about these trucks and all everyone else knows, Ive restored several 69-72 trucks. Ive dealt with and made many good friends here. It just disturbs me when a "kid' comes on and starts kicking and screaming that he is getting "screwed" by the guys that have been here for 2 or 3 years. I myself, play with these trucks as a hoby and really enjoy it. I also enjoy helping new guys with the bit of know how I may have. I don't mean to offend anyone. My first NEW truck was my 72 4x4 Cheyenne 3/4. I miss that truck! Lucky for me, there are several great guys that are board members that are living in my area and we have become great friends. I even bought my 71 Cheyenne from one! Yes, this shouldn't bother me but I don't go out of my way to piss anyone off and I expect the same from anyone else. Im here to have fun, share my thoughts on repairs and rebuilds and sometimes just joke around, but not at the expence of anyone. I also want to thank Josh for starting this board. I was on the board for the Cummins Turbo Diesel Register. It didnt come close to the great help and info that this board has. Very soon, I plan to take pictures of all the inventory and make a post for each item with prices. I must say, I have collected ALOT of stuff in the 30+ years Ive owned old Chevys.. Looking foreward to continue meeting alot more of you.
Im getting off my soapbox now and going out to wash my truck.. Have a great day guys.. Thanks for all the positive feedback! Phil Johnson.. pbjohnson2@aol.com |

The "$ talks; BS walks" thing is dead on.
Lets say you're at a swap meet. You see something you want. Some guy is talking to the seller, and he's saying something like "I want it, but I don't have the cash right now. I'll have to go get it". Seller refuses to hold it for him, but says it's up for grabs. You walk in with the cash, and lay it down. Seller sells it to you. Now, should the first guy come back and cuss out the seller? NO. He was dumb enough to come to a swap meet without any $$$ on him. What did he expect? The seller was just going to "hold" a part for someone he doesn't know? Give me a break. I also think Tom has a good point too. Don't let it bother you. What's these impatient a$$holes going to do??? Go complaining to Josh? This parts board has really been a hotbed of problems recently. It'd be easier to slap these guys who continually mess with people then it would be to go bash sellers that have been here for a million years and are being honest. We all have dealt with each other, and have a pretty good set of relationships where we know who's honest and who's not. People here have to proove their worth. This isn't EBAY. It's a privately managed forum. If they want to get on here and flame people because they think they've been wronged then they don't understand: 1. The internet, and how you have to take everything with a grain of salt on this thing. 2. Trust is earned. Every time I buy something here I'm "Jonny on the Spot" with the money order. That's because I want to build trust with the sellers. Every time I sell something I'm poised to throw the item into the shipping truck the minute I get the money, and give the buyer a notice and even a tracking number. That's because I want to build trust with the buyer. People just don't understand good networking, and how to build relationships that one day may seriously save their a$$ when they're in a tight spot. I think there's a growing trend of board members who are simply using this site as a comodity; as a consumer, and aren't bothering to give anything back. That in itself isn't bad, but when you end up having 80% consumers, and 20% contributors the wealth of knowledge has a tendancy to wear thin.... my .02
