Never Mounted GM Tailgate

This tailgate is absolutely perfect. It was purchased in 1973 or so for a 1971 k20 but the truck was T-boned before it could be installed it sad in the guest bedroom until now. This tailgate is perfect. Not one small dent anywhere and it's not bowed. I have all 3 pieces of trim to go with it also. It has a few paint runs but aren't visable when the tailgate is installed and the CHEVROLET letter stickers are on. Asking $1150 plus shipping OBO

Re: Never Mounted GM Tailgate

We should try to work something out on that tailgate.

I would be looking for work right now.

Re: Never Mounted GM Tailgate

That would be a really cool gate for someone that is planning on or has a truck in that color. Almost a shame though to have to strip it down and change the color =(

I've been thinking about this for my blazer but I am worried about the shipping. Wish you were closer.

Normally greyhound is pretty good for bigger items like this

Re: Never Mounted GM Tailgate

Not to pee on this thread but I recently tried shipping a newer tailgate Greyhound and by the time I crated it up it was over their weight limit of 100 lb. I found out that Central Transport offers really competitive shipping rates without an account so long as you have a loading dock/business address at both ends and afaik they are in all 50 states. I screwed the crate to a skid and got it shipped from NJ to GA for $125. They will give you a courtesy quote on their website and you can send it freight collect at no extra cost. (COD however is an extra charge).

BTW that's an awesome gate. You should build a crate for it and line the crate with foam, and not try to ship it in cardboard.

This can be crated at under 100# for Greyhound shipping. I have tailgates from all over shipped that way. I've never had a handling issue with Greyhound

Re: Never Mounted GM Tailgate

Special-K I'd like to see a picture of one of the crates you built for a tailgate that weighed <100lb. Not that I don't believe you, but I'd like to know how to build them in the future.

I used 2x6 framing, 1/2" OSB sides and 1" foam liner (which weighs almost nothing). The gate I shipped was from a 2012 Escalade EXT, which is thinner sheet metal than our trucks used, and with the crate the weight was 130lb on Greyhound's scale. Now maybe the guts of that Escalade gate made it heavier than a 67-72 gate, but I don't know...

Compare prices. I found FedEx was cheaper than GH on crated TG.
