Why did i do that?
Truck had some mufflers from the 70's and a 327. Well 327's are crackly with headers and long story short i grenaded a rusty old muffler but before that the truck sounded bad to the bone! Very open flowing it was kinda too loud but sounded great. I have a 350 with a 268h in it now and with the old mufflers (tuning out the blown one lol) you could hear the cam really good it sounded like a race car! Choppy at idle and roared up till about 4K then it was raspy and sounded awesome at anything past that. Well I just put super 40's on it and I hate it. It sounds like a newer car just s quite constant hum. It never gets raspy or a little crackly. so now I don't know what to do.. I miss the old sound but no idea what kind of mufflers they where.. It doesn't ever like hit that point of when it really seems to open up..

we used to take a long chisel and knock the baffels out of mufflers for a better ( louder ) sound .

Re: Why did i do that?
Sounds like you may have had glass-packs. They get real loud in the upper RPM range.

Re: Why did i do that?
There are a few different turbo mufflers. Jegs has one, there's Thrush turbos, and maybe one other.

Re: Why did i do that?
You can get a short turbo muffler from thrush or cherry bomb that would probably be what you're looking for. And yes they do look like a "regular" muffler. I'd
go with glass packs though to get the sound you're describing.

It's never been so hard to describe a sound...

Re: Why did i do that?
Maybe check with neighbors for second opinions?
Or with the war department: "I heard ya comin Leonard; ping, ping, ping all the way down the street.. if you think, that for one minute, etc."" |

Re: Why did i do that?
Get a set of headphones and watch some YouTube videos searching "small block Chevy turbo muffler" or whatever. It helped me a lot when deciding what to with the Silverado I had.

Re: Why did i do that?
I just did the same thing, ran new exhaust and replaced my Turbo muffler with a Magna flow, I'm going to get an H pipe and see what that does before messing with the muffler again.

Re: Why did i do that?
The Magnaflows won't get real raspy at any rpm. They have a nice tone but are well known for replacing flowmasters original 40's when people want it quieter. Nice sound, just not raspy or wild
