Stepside owners: what color are your tailgate chains?
I just finished up touching up my truck's black chains. The rubber hose around them is black too. I think they came in black.
What about the rest of you? What color are your tailgate chains? |

Re: Stepside owners: what color are your tailgate chains?
I have bare stainless steel chains for my tailgate. I only ever have them on when I need to keep the tailgate open, otherwise they are stored in the cab under the bench seat. I don't have the rubber sleeves for them, so they make a big ruckus if I drive around with them on.

Plated (zinc/cad) with black protectors is all I recall seeing as factory on a 67-72. Stainless makes a lot of sense though to keep them nice.

If you want one the best thing to do is post a WTB (want to buy) in the classifieds and you need to be a paid subscriber to do so. As far as I know, for stepsides, the reproduction and left over service part bumpers are long gone.

Up here there was a set on a dark green 84-86 something 4x4 years ago The guy said he got them custom made by the guy that did his horse stuff It was a real soft rope with nice nickel clips and eye bolts The way the rope was meshed in a loop was almost flawless White rope with same green strands in it? I'll try to find and screen shot of the type of rope I mean. He said they were durable. I think they looked nice with a white bumper

It was a real soft rope! don't picture a big stiff loop on me. It didn't fold much bigger than a chain It was a working truck, too not a not a polished up parked inside truck either

Yeah. Me too. I like to use cut off lengths of old bicycle inner tubes. I slip the chains in and they last for years. Cuts down on rattle too. Usually free.

Mine on my 72 appear rusty color but the hoses are same as body color. Pretty sure original as truck was unmolested and still had the original spare tire. Here a pic if that helps.

Re: Stepside owners: what color are your tailgate chains?
I keep the chains under the front seat, and use these custom pins which are attached with leather straps. No chain damage.
