Green and white on EBAY

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-C-...m=111996078324

What is your recommended high bid? I'm sure that color combo wasn't available in 1969 - can't read the SPID which probably reduces the value. Any other concerns or thoughts?

Re: Green and white on EBAY

Looks like a nice truck. Going pretty high...They're worth the high bid-I know that doesn't help you much but prices are all over. I've bought nice original, good running trucks for around 2K. Got my Highlander (orange and white-in the signature) for 6500 on EBay then put another 4K in it so far for mechanicals....
I know olive was a 69 color because I'm painting one now for my son. Not sure on the 2-tone treatment, but sure looks nice. I would say to buy a nice one to restore and get it to the point of the Texas truck would take about 15-20K and that's if you do a lot of the work your self.. A good paint job to hire out would be over 8K in my neck of the woods. Happy bidding

Nice truck....priced fairly so far.
I have a few questions/concerns which include: why the paint on the front clip doesn't match the paint on the cab/doors and back.
Maybe just one portion was re-painted? if so why? damage or?
As well, I always wrestle with a poor spid....and that one is hard to read. When it is hard to read, faded, etc....its nice if the seller writes it out clearly so you know how the truck came equipped originally.
Its probably worth what they are asking for so far...given the short box popularity.
Regardless....nice truck, priced close and fair so far.

Re: Green and white on EBAY

it's a nice truck for the money but i would have to change the grill out if it was mine
it's gotta say chevrolet, the aftermarket plain grills don't do much for me, but other than that if it dos'nt go to much higher nice truck

Re: Green and white on EBAY

Initial glance - wow, nice! Closer inspection - after you read the 36k mi claim, it probably would be worth more if it were left alone, however - the fact that it wasn't left alone means it must've needed it. Eng rebuild, new paint, new interior=new truck. Agreed that an original grille would look nicer. The mirrors, oh my, sure wish folks didn't top off an expensive resto with Autozone mirrors. You can swap em out, but the holes are still there - and it was just painted. But these are nit picks - overall it looks very nice and the nits are just that, nit picks. If you can live with the mirrors and the houndstooth which was never on anything til 71 (and many folks do this because they look so nice), AND it's really what you want - I'd say you could go to 15-16k. But I'm guessing the 36k mi claim will send it higher yet - and with all the work done, low mileage really means nothing at this point, it's been totally redone. Personally, I'd stop around $12k if I was looking at a swb truck like this, but am afraid it will continue higher. All up to you - we all want different things about our trucks - but I wouldn't think it's worth more because it's low mileage - it's a full rebuild, so all bets are off. Fair price right now in my book (mid-10's...)

Jocko, What's up with the hubcaps/wheel covers? That's the one thing I couldn't figure out. It's PO3 on the SPID and Chrome Hubcaps is the correct SPID description for a 69 St. Louis truck.

That's impressive, how did you do that? So the truck was originally solid olive with white top and the current body molding is somewhat period correct?

the high bidder has 0 feedback so I guess it will probably be a no sale if this 0feedback bidder wins the auction.

yeah, that would be me, I've never bought anything on eBay. I did pay for a third party inspection, hopefully will happen today, so I do have some skin in the game. Of course whatever bid I finally make, I'll have to add $2K for shipping back to CA. This is the closest comp I could find locally ( about 100 miles from me )

Regardless, thanks everyone for the comments, especially Bruceman the Master SPID Decoder.

Well, you were right all along. That SPID can't be read. At least not read like a book, or a clear SPID.
Several options are on the firewall. The model number, engine code, transmission code, and trim level are on the firewall. 69 St. louis SPIDs are in alphabetical order so once you get a few of them, you start to know what could be in between. Then one or two characters from the SPID can usually get them figured out. The Trim code didn't have any clues from the SPID but the seller said in his description, that the interior was originally green. With a green interior, and a Z62 custom trim level, the code and description can be determined from GM reference material and my personal data base. That truck did originally have upper and lower molding, but it was painted white top, green body. The white center was added. I also used imaging software to help bring out the details. A better picture would have made it a lot easier. I started it when you first posted the thread and worked on it when I had time till I was reasonably sure it was right. That's a nice truck and a real short wheelbase. I'm sure the buyer will be happy with it.

Re: Green and white on EBAY

I know I am going to sound like johnny raincloud but those dang ebay trucks always seem kinda sketchy to me. now it very well could be a solid truck through no fault of its own but I don't think the paint is right for the year. And I hate the grill it just screams LMC and the mileage claim well who really knows right

I see the bid is coming up on 15k if I was really in love with it I still think that would be the top of the hill for me

Good luck I know you been searching for a while be patient

Re: Green and white on EBAY

"All Original".... Just a few Red Flags. The mirrors are not factory (they're cheap auto store type). The Spid states the paint. It came with the white cab, and all green below that. If it was original, it would say, "green/white/green". The grill has no letters (cheaper aftermarket), and the mileage, I would venture to say it has a 1 in front of the 36xxx. While it is a nice truck, I don't think it's a $15k truck. Somebody's been watching too much "Barrett-Jackson's" my .02

This seems to be the consensus, so if the bidding goes north of 15K I won't chase it. I could probably swap the grill myself but can the mirrors be replaced and the holes plugged and paint matched?

Regardless, thank you everyone for taking the time to read my post and critically look at the EBAY ad. Please keep the comments coming if you have time.

Fully agree.
...again, that non-matching front end paint always makes me nervous without a really good, viable explanation.
Plus, when the seller doesn't post questions that I'm sure have been asked of the truck with that many bidders.
....there are lots still out there, just keep your eyes open and keep searching...simply a matter of time.

All Good

ha outbid in the last 60 seconds, is that a real person doing that? I had heard that the real bidding starts in the last hour but the last minute?

Think I might stick with CL in the future. Regardless, thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions.

^^^^^ The real bidding - the bids that win - happen in the last SECONDS often times. I have software that helps do this for me.
