Ol' 1968 C10

Hello Fellow C10 Enthusiasts, Today is the day I finally make a Build Thread on this truck. First of all I want to introduce myself to you all (I'm fairly new to this site). My Name is Rodrigo and I've gotten into these trucks by actually looking for a Chevy 3100 instead. I been in the "scene" (really don't know what else I should call it) for about 4 years now, starting at a age of 12. Doing simple addition you can I am currently 16 years old. Enough about me and more about the truck. It was a single owner 1968 C10 when I bought it. All original, no modifications done to it what so ever (other than maintenance stuff). Original 283, original 3 speed automatic transmission. For being a truck that sat outside for sometime and was put on the edge of a field for people to buy, it really is a clean truck. The regular rust areas, outer rocker panels, few holes in the floor and about a foot to 3 foot long rust section on the bed (see pictures). Other than that, pretty strait truck. Lived all or most of its life in Austin, Texas. It is a long wheel base if wondering. Now, for the plans for this truck, I would like to daily drive this truck to school and back, going to the store, taking the girlfriend out to eat or some thing like that, driving to Austin to visit family, road trips, and all those nice things.

• Ls Swap to a 6.2L engine and a 4L60E Transmission
• Positive Differential
• Disk Brakes all around
• Black Wheel Vintiques 15x10 6 lug

• Original Paint

One more thing that I would love to do is convert it into a short bed. I have a 1969 short bed frame that I would use if I do the conversion. For the I would love to get original short bed bedsides instead of getting reproduction panel, got to have the history in the panels. Really don't want to cut the long be sides, they are to precious to do that to them.
Future Plans:

• Accuair air ride system
• a new paint job inside the cab

Other than that, those are the plans and history of this truck. Leave suggestion (especially on the long bed to short bed conversion) if you want, I will gladly accept them. Enjoy the pictures!

Its nice to see that you have a good plan. Your truck ought to be pretty cool when done. Im sure you've read many of the build threads and realize the time it takes, so enjoy yourself and your truck, there are many here who can answer questions for you.

Hahahaha, I know the pain that they bring. This isn't the first rodeo I have been in, I have a '69 that was so rusted out but now is a multi first place winner in auto shows. I hope that it is pretty cool, enough to compete with some pretty expensive cars at my school. Oh I will enjoy every moment, this is one of my two passions. Thank you, I bet there is fellow builder that can help me in some things.

May 27 and 28, 2016:
Update: Started on the passenger side Outer Rocker panel and found a bit more rust on areas that, in my opinion, suck to repair. But oh well, better repair them now than regret later. To be honest the Outer looked great and solid other than the small holes that it had, but oh gosh the amount of rust pieces that it had inside. Today, I just made some ruff repair patches that I will smooth out tomorrow when I come back from volunteering with some Vietnam Veterans. Should be done with this rocker panel this week (hopefully). Then start on the other side.

Oh yeah, I know from that first hand. Like I said before, I have a 69 that was so rusted out and that truck took about 3 years just to get it running and fixing any rust in it and it took about another year to get it to the stage it is right now (which is still not finished like I would like it to be ).

Update:
Been a few days since I've done a update on this build. Not done much on it because the weather has been crazy here in Southeast Texas. My father and I have cut the inner rocker panel and replaced it with a after market panel. Also have done the curves on both sides and mock up the outer rocker panel.

Two weeks later, the weather in Texas has been rough, (at least where I live at). The weather brings me closer to my deadline with out doing any work on the truck. Fast forward to this week were work has really gone on. Repaired the rear pillar with a patch that I fabricated. And also repaired some floor damage the best I could. Being the first time doing fabrication, welding and hammering on metal, I thing it came put pretty well to be honest. Here are some picture of that.

Thank you sir, trying to fix the truck as best that I can to have a killer truck in my last year in High School. If you need some ideas, you are welcome to take some off this build.

Are you making your patch panels from old parts or new fresh metal?

I am using metal from old parts because it is abundant where my father works and plus he brings strips of different sizes to be able to make the patch panels.

Your truck is going to be awesome man, I too have a 68 C10 that I'm currently trying to fix up with the help of my pops. It does take a lot of time and money, especially money lol. Good luck man, it's gonna be sick. This is Rue, my 68, shes a work in progress

Thank you, Rue looks killer! What engine does she have in her at this time? Oh yeah I agree with you. The Maroon color 69 C10 you see in the other post, took me, my dad and another close family friend about 3 years just to get it to that stage. And it still isn't finished. And the money part, don't even get me start it on it. That's the only thing that slows us down from getting it done. I haven't been on here for awhile now. Haven't really done anything major on the truck other then trying to finish the passenger side. Other than that, I think I will leave it as a long bed for the time being. The look of it is getting to me. And plus I think a sleeper is pretty good for now.

Hello, its been a very long time since I have posted on this thread to tell you all how the truck is progressing. Lately I have been working my butt off to get some money to put in this truck. I have also have ben volunteering a lot with the community to get hours for my school, but also to get to know how the community is. The only things that I have done to the truck is just fix rusted metal on the drivers side. The outer rocker panel (not yet installed), the ladder area of the inner rocker (installed), A-pillar (not yet installed), foot well (not yet installed), and a bit of the floor (not yet installed). Also I have finished the passenger side.
