62' Frame swap
Hi thinking of doing a frame swap with my 62'. Ill be getting a 63' so that I have more aftermarket stuff available to me. Just wondering if anyone has any thought on doing this. From my understanding I just have to move cab mounts. I understand that by doing this that Ill have to go through a DMV process.

Re: 62' Frame swap
You'd be better off going with a later front cross member and dropping it onto the '62 chassis, and then find the rear end you want and put it in. You'll need to have the saddles moved on the rear, but that's easier than moving cab mounts.
You'd also need to move the bed mounting points as well--the stringers/mounts for the bed have different holes. The bumpers will also need to be changed, because they are different too. Clutch linkage and brake master cylinder conversion is easier on a '63-up, but that's all on the body and not the frame. -Brad

Re: 62' Frame swap
It's been said before. The x frame is more ridged and there is just as much aftermarket for the 62 frame. It seems to me it's a lack of searching. The drop spindles, brakes 5 or 6 lug and torsion bar works fine. The rear is the same, still have to modify to fit. In fact Porterbuilt has a x member for the 63 up. If that doesn't convince you.
Long to short bed would be only concern. Apparently Chevy decided that the torsion bar was a good Idea because they brought it back

Re: 62' Frame swap
You do not have to move any cab mounts. All you have to do to bolt a '60-'62 cab to a '63-'66 frame is drill new holes in the cab floor for the front mount bolts.

Re: 62' Frame swap
I'm looking to possibly put a 63+ frame under my 60 simply because I cant seem to get the exhaust the way I want it because of the x in the frame. plus my frame is sagging in the rear. Thoughts?

Re: 62' Frame swap
If you have the paperwork to do it legally, I wouldn't hesitate. You will have to drill holes in the can for the front cab mount bolts and move the recessed washers. Also the bed mounting points on the '60-'62 bed sills are wider than the '63-'66's. But it is a worthwhile change IMO.
