71 blazer clutch ???s

My cousins 71 has some clutch problems. First of all it needs a new clutch. But second I was looking under it today and the rod that connects the clutch fork doesn't look right. If I remember right my 72 has a threaded rod that connects to the clutch fork and has a nut on the back for adjustment. But his is just a big wingnut style nut on one side and a big spring putting tension against it. His is not threaded either. Is there 2 styles of connecting rods or is this not right? I will attach a pic of his.

Here is his connecting rod to the clutch fork. Is this right?

Also if the spring is off there is nothing holding the fork on to the rod as you can see.

His rod and spring look correct to me. The "wing nut" on the clutch fork end is correct too. It fits into the groove at the end of the clutch fork. His rod is threaded on the end that connects to the "z-bar" or "bell crank". That is where he can make adjustments to the rod length. Sounds like you have a piece of all-thread that has been swapped in some time in the past.

Ok thanks. I didn't know which one of ours was correct. So the adjustment is at the front of that rod? I will tell him. Is the spring correct? Because my return spring is on my clutch pedal and his is on that fork.

The clutch adjustment is done at the end of the rod closest to the front of the vehicle. The adjustment rod should be fed through an eyelet with hex nuts on either side to hold the adjustment in place. I don't have a spring on the fork. I think mine has a spring in the pedal like yours but I couldn't see the spring when I looked at the pedal assembly under the dash.

I have a spring in both locations. The one on the clutch fork is primarily to keep the rod from separating from the clutch fork and dropping down. The spring on the inside provides most of the pedal return.
