Re: Factory inspection marks

They are not really "inspection marks", meaning the result of noting and correcting build mistakes. Deficiencies are noted on (and repairs bought off on) the inspection "ticket", which is a paper packet that follows the vehicle down the line and in post processing in the back yard.

These are more of a "heads up" to help facilitate the assembly process.

"46" would be the final line build sequence number. It would be an abbreviation of the full six digit sequence number (like 111446, or whatever). You might find it on any other component that was sub assembled and conveyed to the main line in sequence: seat, cab, rear diff cover, front crossmember assembly, rad support, hood, grille, tire/wheel assemblies, frame rails and/or frame crossmembers.

I'm not totally sure on the "5" and "17". "5" could be the paint scheme, which is RPO ZY5 (primary color with a secondary inset). "17" could be the sequence number through the paint shop (paint sequence is not tied to the final line sequence) but I am speculating on that.

Re: Factory inspection marks

My truck was "number 87".

I followed it down the line as it was built but I didn't notice that at the time.

Re: Factory inspection marks

Thanks for the info. The "46" is on several areas included underside of the hood.

You are welcome.

In which plant was your truck built?
