Hey everybody! I love this forum board and have learned sooooooo much from it over the past few months. I've got my grandpa's old 1972 C20 3/4ton pickup that I've been working on lately and had a question. In this picture, there's a fitting to the left of the coil with a steel line running down to the transmission. Can someone tell me what that fitting is and what it does? I think it's the vacuum modulator, but I've been learning as I go. I read on here once a guy had mentioned that he didn't inherit his truck when his dad or grandpa died, he was "just the caretaker of it." I thought that was really cool and like how it sounds. Thanks for all the help and advice. I really appreciate it.

Thanks Firedemon. If that fitting coming off the manifold got a little banged up, should it be replaced? I put a needle nose to it and opened up the line a bit, but it's not perfectly round like it should be.

as long as its not leaking it should be fine but they cant be that expensive either

That's a much later intake manifold and thermostat housing...FYI

It looks to be the EGR aluminum factory intake, nothing special. Had a customer came in the parts store I worked in years ago,just frothing at the mouth about this ultra special "factory Special" intake they were going to install on his son's pickup.
Not really gauging how special he thought this part was at the time, I told him it was essentially an aluminum version of the stock iron intakes, not much different...man he set to educate me on how this intake was worth 50 HP...vs. a stocker iron unit....LOL

If that piece is an ERG valve, would it have a steel line running down to the trans? I haven't been on the forum for a few days but I seem to remember that someone mentioned that it was most likely a vacuum modulator for the passing gear kick down. I'm still learning all of the in's and out's of this motor and all basics of engine mechanics. To be honest, I'd make a terrible mechanic. Anywho, thanks for all the input. It helps a lot.
