Is triple nickel any good?

I was wondering if anyone has purchased a triple nickel bumper and what their thoughts were as to the quality of the plating. I thought that the best chrome plating jobs were triple plated using copper then nickel then chrome. Supposedly, copper attaches well to steel and that is why copper is used as a base plate. Nickel attaches well to copper and chome well to nickel. So, I'm wondering if the nickel base plate on these triple nickel bumpers really adheres well and if the plating job lasts without flaking off. Any comments and suggestions before I purchase one?

Thanks!

My understanding same as yours---copper, nickel, chrome was the proper way for a good chrome.

I believe the way is supposed to be taken is copper, nickel, nickel, nickel, and then chrome. Nickel resists corrosion. The 3 platings of nickel is to keep the steel base metal from rusting through the chrome plateing.

When most companies talk about tripple nickle plating they are talking about that process only. It doesn't necassarily mean they don't plate with copper first. The copper also serves as filler to fill any imperfections of the steel base metal. If you think about it they don't talk about the chrome plating either, but it is there. Our bumpers are manufactured in both QS and ISO certified factories. If anyone has gone through this process, they know that it is extreemly hard to get that cirtification. Tripple nickle plate assures a show guality shine and the chrome is applied over that. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

By the way, I have had several people come to me with reproduction bumpers with the chrome peeling off of them. When I look at the back of the plating I do see the copper. It was the bumper (base metal) that was poorly prepaired.

Thanks for setting me straight on the triple nickel. Good to know they use copper for the base plate. Should be a superior product.

Another thing to look for is the warrenty. Some bumpers have a 5-year warrenty whereas others have a lifetime warrenty.
