Windshield sealer
What are you guys using to seal the windshield rubber on the outside in the upper and lower corners. I bought some 3M glazing and bedding compound. It is non hardening so the rubber can be removed later if needed. Am I on the right track or should I use seam sealer?

Re: Windshield sealer
Are you sure it leaks ? If it's not leaking don't fix it ,If so flow grade windshield sealer
Why is the rope still in the gasket ? Your going to need to fix that split in the top of the gasket .

Re: Windshield sealer
Yes, it was leaking when I bought the truck. I put the 1/4" rope under the gasket to tape it off for painting. Didn't want paint on the gasket. I'll pull the rope out as I run the sealer around the windshield that way it will get under the gasket and seal her up. The upper corners have quite a bit of gap under the gasket, it's the original and I didn't want to pull the windshield out.

Re: Windshield sealer
Flow grade sealer? The 3M stuff flows fairly well and never gets hard. That partial tube in the pic is at least 5 years old and still flows out with the caulking gun.

Re: Windshield sealer
Have you looked with a flashlight up under the dash to see if the leak is coming from the body seam or bottom of the windshield frame they rust in those areas frequently .

Re: Windshield sealer
Yes I repaired a rusty area on the pass. side and found no rust on the driver side. I used seam sealer on both sides top and bottom in the joints before I painted the top and cowl/firewall.

I have a small RV manufacturer who swears by it, he has outlasted Gem Top here in Oregon. |
