Another dash insert - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This dash insert is CNC milled from T-6061 aircraft quality billet aluminum. It is professionally polished and accepts Dolphin Gauges ( 5" speedometer / tachometer & 2 1/16" smaller gauges ). The following Dolphin Gauges are included in this auction: 5" mechanical speedometer & tachometer, 2 1/16" oil pressure, water temperature, voltmeter, & a 0-90 ohm fuel gauge that will work with the stock fuel sending unit. Water temperature, oil pressure, & fuel senders are included along with the LED lights for your turn signal & high beam indicators. By Boese Engineering in Marysville, WA. Found on e-bay

Boese says they'll have this at the Monroe swapmeet on Oct 11 & 12 and at Portland Oct 18&19.

I was the only one that bid on it!! It's beautiful. Very nice looking Dolphin gages. I like their convex glass faces.

I hooked up with Dean and the Boese Engineering gang at the Monroe swapmeet. They have a lot of very well crafted pieces for our trucks. I'm sure they'll be getting more of my money.

I have not found an aluminum bezel on the market that I am totally happy with. So, I am in the process of having a stock bezel reverse engineered and programmed in Solid Works by a friend of mine with the changes I want. Once the program is done its off to a few local machine shops to have quoted. The neat thing about Solid Works is that most shops with CNC machining centers use the Solid Works file to program the cutting tool paths which is much faster and more accurate than manual milling machines. The program is easily tweaked if you want smaller or larger holes, if you want to change the position of the holes, if you want to add designs, etc. Of course, the result of this whole exercise might be, it's cheaper to pay $249 for one and just accept the designs that are commercially available, we'll see...

FYI, Classic Trucks has an article in this month's magazine about modifying stock 67-72 guage bezels for Autometer guages.

I went to RB's Obsolete Parts (the completed one at the end of the article) and looked at theirs. I liked it a lot, but the price was more than I wanted to part with. I would have had to buy the gages and the new dash piece, then make the modofications. The $475 was about the price of the gages, etc. and I wasn't confident in making the mods. I like the looks of that style dash though.
