Found nice repop 72 woodgrain door panel inserts
Bought a pair off of EBay. They were actually aluminum like factory. Couldn't be happier. They line up perfectly, have the silver line around the edge, and the woodgrain looks like original color/grain. "Counterpart automotive" is the brand and the seller was "truckshop_oc". Not cheap, but nothing nice is. I have no affiliation with them, just want to share news when I find something good...especially non-NOS/original.

Got the panels today- look good except the silver border on the drivers panel is rubbed thru to the woodgrain in a few spots. Any idea why they paint the border instead of exposing the aluminum like the originals?

Exactly why I never bought them. I put my hands on them when the truck shop came out with them, and that killed it for me for the price.

Re: Found nice repop 72 woodgrain door panel inserts
Sorry to hear the silver isnt quite right on yours. I honestly couldn't tell mine were painted they were so clean. Not sure why they'd so that except it is probably easier/cheaper. Should be easy to tape and make it like the real ones if you wish, but when you pay good money you shouldn't have to do anything. That teaches me to recommend something. Far better than the plastic junk though either way. Good luck.

"For the price" is relative I guess. The junk plastics are nearly $200 shipped too.

I'm not really upset about them- if it bothers me I could tape them & use a block with 1000G to wet sand them down to the aluminum- will see if I'm that brave!

Re: Found nice repop 72 woodgrain door panel inserts
You must have different experiences than I do with plastic. I guess I should find a plastic hood too. My newish Honda has scratches all over the plastic door panel. Any aftermarket plastic thing I've owned became brittle over time or distorted too.
Just ribbing ya. I just really dislike the plastic ones. |

Re: Found nice repop 72 woodgrain door panel inserts
I laid my hands on these and that's why I bought them. They are the only thing worth buying out there, or restore originals. I have them but don't even run them because I have a Sierra and I like the western scroll pattern that matches the seat better.
I feel GM screwed up back then with their woodgrain and/or scroll pattern. The Custom Deluxe/Super Customs are the only ones that had scroll on doors, but they had lace pattern cloth seat inserts. Cheyenne/Sierras got the scroll on the seat, but doors are covered up with woodgrain that is only found there in the interior. The Cheyenne Super/Sierra Grandes got the wood grain dash to match the door panels and a herringbone seat. Nothing western at all to go with the western name. Never saw a cowboy wearing herringbone.
