Why I prefer bench seats.

I needed to do a little running around. Asked my honey if she wanted to go. She said sure, and then changed her mind when I told her I was taking the truck. Ok, that's cool, I know old trucks and cars aren't her thing. She doesn't care that I have them, just not high on her list lol. Few minutes later, yeah Ill go with you.

So we take off. We are driving down the road when she unbuckles and slides over to the middle and buckles up there. I really liked that, would have put my arm around her but my shoulder hurts haha.

I told her it was 1977, I was a senior and she was a junior. Driving around in a cool 4x4, big ol tires with slotted mags, and the rumble of the big block, but most importantly you are with your favorite girl. Windows down, slider open and the sun shining on a summer day in July ...What's cooler than that?

Buckets,buckets,buckets one date with your favorite girl with a bench seat at look out point and you'll be tossing those buckets in the back !

I have been the Bench Seat Advocate on this site for the very reasons the OP states!

It helps if the truck is a 3OTT or column automatic.....

It helps also if the girl isn't that tall and the truck has the original height roof.

You can also carry two passengers on the bench seat....try that with buckets.

"Sliding over" is much easier!

Dogs like bench seats.

*Summer 2004: I was driving my 1975 Pontiac with full power bench seat and I tell you, it's a great thing when you are cruising down the highway and you have your hot number of a 19 year old GF snuggled up next to you. Oh my, that was a nice drive.

Bench seats with a high console I can rest my arm on and hold her hand... She dont need to be sitting right beside me while I'm smacking gears and taking curves anyway.

Sorry flashed I have to disagree (at least for me). I had a set of those that I restored and yes they look great, they just aren't a bench. Anyone that sat in the middle said they felt like they were sitting on a jump seat.

I took mine out in favor of the buckets, but regret selling the bench. Not that I don't really like my buckets, it's just that now that it's gone I don't have the option of going back to the long seat. I guess I'll just have to get another truck so that I can choose..... The neighbor has a C-30 that I'm itching to get

Its funny you mention this. We had a bunch of stops to make, first couple she got out and back in on her side. For some reason she decided to get out on my side and back in on my side. She said its much easier this way and thats how it went on the rest of our errands.

bench seats are great when you have a hot GF or wife that takes advantage of it. i'm kinda at the point on my truck where i'm going to have to decide if I want my bench seat and my full blown hottie beside me or buckets and lightning rod shifters and her over in the passenger seat screaming at me for driving like an idiot

My wife will go in my truck if I make sure there is NO CIGAR stank residing, so I need to plan a few days ahead... My Longhorn has a bench but only came with two sets of seat belts from the factory so no sitting in the middle...

I started driving in 1969 and have had both over the years. My favorite were a couple Ramblers I owned that had the full lay down into a bed seats. Ah that was before I got married. I just got my 98 C-1500 three years ago and it is the first bench seat I have had since 02 and I love it. And yes the dog loves it especially when you do the bank drive through and she gets to take the cookie right from my side on my lap. We only have one daughter living at home now so we can all ride when we take the truck to the beach too.

I prefer a bench seat in my '72 because I had a good one in the color I'm doing sitting around the shop and if I sold the console, seats, and new covers I'd have a heap of money, room for three people, can lay on the seat, might even get one to slide over against me one day. Let's see... $450 for the seats, $300 for the covers, and $300 for the console. Heck, I went ahead and sold the N.O.S. shoulder belts, too! I don't like to wear those anyway. I want to find some nice saddle 3-pts.

An elderly couple are out driving, she in the passenger seat and he in the driver's seat of their bench, and they see a young couple in another car cuddled up together on =their= bench seat.

The wife gets a grim look and says "Why don't we sit like that anymore?"

I let Jena ride next to me if we're going to stay on mostly 45mph ish roads. I've kissed a dash in my younger days from lap belts... broken nose... blood, ER visit... anything above that and she sits on the PS with the 3 point.

But it's not just the riding around bench seats are good for... they're good for um... "parking"... too....

Believe it or not, my 2015 Silverado has a full split bench! It can actually carry 6 people!

It's easier to fart on a bench seat! Those contoured seats kinda keep you stuck in place, no good for farting! And if the wife wants to sit closer.. all the better!

I've got a 60/40 split bench in the 71 and the wife loves it. She doesn't usually sit in the Middle much though.

Hats off to the lucky guys who's lady still slides over to the middle after you have been married or together a lot of years. I've got a neighbor who's been married to his wife for 20 years and you always see them going down the road with her in the middle of the seat.

We met 31 years ago this month. We always hold hands when we are out and about. And when we are at any kind of get togethers we sit, or at least stay close. I'm kinda fond of her haha!

As far as farting, I have never done it around her (on purpose) ... sometimes it hurts
