Gas Cap Relocation

Thinking of installing a new gas tank like maybe a blazer tank in the rear of my step side. Would like to install the gas cap in the rear fender. Thinking of a gas cap door similar to what's on my Buick Enclave, where it's a round circle about 6" around, it's spring loaded, so it's a nice clean smooth look. Has anyone done this or anything similar on a step side. Now don't be bashful, we want to see pictures please.

Someone must have installed a new tank in the rear and installed the fill neck somewhere on a SB SS. Any ideas?

I've been wanting to add a tank with no filler neck at all, and pump gas to and from the main tank in the cab with electric pumps, or gravity-feed from the cab tank to the extra tank and run the engine from the extra tank.

I've seen them done several ways. The one I like on the step sides is the opening just behind the wheel opening. On the inside you want to fab a shield to protect your filler tube from the stuff your tires might pick up.
I agree with the round door shape, as the square bodies have the rounded square shape, and it just doesn't seem to "fit".
I have a LWB fleet side, and I'm going to be relocating my tank soon. I cut a fuel door and filler tube assembly out of a late 80s truck to use.
I've been kicking this idea around for some time now, and now have it drawn out.

There is a user here who kept the cab tank and had it feed an under bed tank. If it's under the front of the bed I'd imagine it could be gravity fed with a pair (1 to transfer fuel, the other as a vent between the tanks) of 1/2 lines.

A couple of users kept the stock filler and extended it to a tank under the cab/front of the bed. That's the idea I like the best. I personally would like at least 30 gallons for those road trips and to run e85 though. For that I was thinking of adding another tank to the passenger side and using the system 1997-up corvettes use to keep the fuel level equal between its pair of fuel tanks. Or just run some 1/2" lines between them and enclose them in a driveshaft loop to let gravity do the work of equalizing their levels.

Thanks guys for the stories on installing the gas tanks along with pictures on relocating the gas filler. I'm just getting ready to send an order into brothers for a few things and one of them is for the new gas tank. I'm really looking forward to starting this project.

88-98 Silverado and all the twins, and I believe the 2nd gen (94-04) s10s/s10 blazers used the same door.

Just in case it comes up in someone's search, when I was contemplating keeping my AUX tanks I discovered that the big 90s Ford vans with dual tanks had mirror image doors. It's about the only source I could find for doors that would be reversed on one side so you could use them for dual tanks.

Not you issue, I know, just throwing it into a gas door thread for safekeeping!
