So today is the day that I finally get my truck back together and running right?

A little history to present as short as I can make it.

The motor went out in my truck. Bad knocking. Found out it was a bad head. Broken pieces in vavle train. Get new 2 better heads, a month and a 1/2 later. Put new heads on today. Have trouble getting truck to start. Clean points, fired right up, knocking still there, not as loud, but none the less, still there. Bottem end bad. Rebuild inevitable. 500 spent thus far. Extreme frustration.

that sux man. i would have given you a good 4 bolt short block that you could put those heads on, but i gave it away a couple weeks ago

Ah don't say that brother.

I am hopeing it will all seem woth it tomorrow when I go to the Goodguys Show tomorrow and see all the cars and how each one probably had similar setbacks.

I guess right now I am going to wait to see if I can find a 350 shortblock to rebuild.

There is a boardmember (bbs1965) that has a salvage business in Waxahachie and has a lot of truck parts.
Check with him and maybe you can work a deal.
Here is a post with his contact information.
I believe that he lives in Arlington and does the parts business on the weekends. I know that he states to be open on Sundays.

If you are looking for a rebuilt long or short block this will give you a ball park figure:
City Motor Supply
For replacement engine:
GoAutoCenter
Just some options to consider.
I have done business with City Motor Supply and they are a good engine shop and are have a fast turnaround but the last time I did some business with them it was cash only. The best bet with CMS is to have them rebuild your shortblock but be sure and mark it so that you get the correct one back,

Cool. I have been looking fo some info. I found Blaine's motor supply www.blainesmotors.com Have you heard anything about these guys? They have a 72-79 350 4 bolt short block listed for 340.00. Seems like a good price to me. I'll have to check the other info you gave as well and compare. Thanks again man.

Zumo, what do you mean it won't start?

If it is trying to start (sometimes hitting and backfiring), i would look into a incorrect valve adjustment, or messed up firing order. It could be possible you got the distributor in 180 degrees out.

Don't give up just yet.....if your shortblock had good oil pressure, and the bores looked nice and smooth when you yanked the heads, i would investigate getting it to start more before i started over with a new motor.

Oops, i just read your post better....you still have a knocking

$340 sounds like a good deal for a 4-bolt shortblock, but i have never heard of blaine's motors.

Yeah my guess is a spun bearing or something since there was NO damage to the cylinder walls.

This is a very long shot, but does your truck have an auto tranny? A long time ago, my 350 started knocking badly, deep down in the block sounding like maybe a rod bearing. Turned out to be a cracked flex plate.

A loose converter will do the ame...I've had that happen on a couple engines.

My buddy came over and asked me to listen to his knocking motor. I've heard too many rods and know this was not a rod. It would disappear at higher rpm. Turned out to be cracked bell housing! Just a thought. Rods are very loud and don't go away!

You guys don't thina spun bearing would make this noise? I guess it's hard to tell unless you hear it for yourself.
