Wheel Ideas

Hey Guys,

I'm just finishing the build on my '70 C10 and I was hoping to get a few wheel ideas. The rally's are ok but I want something a little more sporty but still classic. She has a 454BB so there's a good bit of weight up front, not sure if that matters though.

I'm thinking either 18's (front), 20's (rear), or 20's all the way around. Below are a few pics of the truck so I'd love some thoughts if you don't mind. Also, if you have a set for sale let me know!

Beautiful truck, love the colors and engine bay. Personally, I would leave it as is. I'm sure others will chime in with their wheel choice of preference.

I'm cheap and found a set of OEM 2015 take offs in 18" I did have to use 1" billet spacers in the rear to center the wheel and because the hub dia is too small on newer wheels to clear the axle ends. The front center cap won't fit either due to the hub cover, but I bought them for $250 on C/L!

Pricey but I think these Centerline CSR-1's look great with a somewhat classic style.

Your truck is beautiful. No offense to anyone else, but I love the classic look and I don't think any of those wheels would be an improvement from what you have.

Nothing says classic like 20 inch rims all the way around =) Just pulling yer chain. Nice looking ride. Personally I like it like it is. But I do like both the trucks pictured so far ... not an over the top look on either of em.

I think the rally's look great on our trucks. Others don't care for them. It's a personal choice. Personally, I'd keep the rally's.

if you must go bigger than 15" wheels then I would say no more than 17" IMO

im a huge fan of the classic cragar look

I think anything bigger than 15s are not going to look "classic" If it were mine I'd stay with the 15s but find some older aluminum slots or cragars or something along those lines. The big wheels look good too though, it really depends on the overall look you want with the truck.

I ran 15" steelies and swore I always would until I coverted to discs and the calipers would not clear the old wheels.

I was hesitant to go 20"s but am really glad I did. I think the billboard size profile of the truck lends well to a larger diameter wheel and with the manufacturers putting bigger wheels on everything these days, small wheels can look dated instead of "classic." (The commonality of 20's now makes for a million choices in tires and really reasonable pricing too)

And of course, the truck has to be lowered in order to run the larger wheels or else it just looks like a hot wheels car which is no Bueno. I was also careful to maintain the same overall height on the new wheels/tires as I had with the old.

The real nice thing about the bigger wheels is (with the right tires) the handling improvement is ridiculous. Mine has woken up so much from skinny 15's that it's inspired me to go with a bunch of Hotchkis stuff underneath to really have some fun and get the full potential out of my new sticky rubber.

In closing your honor, the wonderful thing about wheels is how easy they are to change. If I decide I don't like the 20's anymore. I just bolt a set of steelies back on. (In fact, I kept my aged poverty caps for just such a thing).
