Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit
There is a wrench that I think Tucker's and maybe Classic Industries sells (I bought one and used it for that job) but several people told me I could get by with a brass punch and a hammer.
Let me see if I can find a pic. https://www.corvettemods.com/assets/images/GBD35015.jpg |

Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit
If I recall correctly, I used a short piece of broom handle and a hammer. You want to avoid using a steel object such as a screwdriver with the hammer that could result in sparks .

Technically yes, there's a special tool. I've only ever used a small punch and a rubber mallet, or a small piece of wood. The tool makes installation easier, but it's by no means difficult.

Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit
Pulled mine out today, used a chisel and hammer. Gave it a couple of taps and it moved maybe an eighth of an inch, then turned it by hand the rest of the way!

Re: Fuel Tank Sending Unit
I used pliers. Just opened the jaws so they contacted the tabs on the sending unit's retainer ring, and twisted.
