In cab sending unit install
I have a 1971 chevy pickup with an in cab gas tank. Do I have to bleed the gas line before I disconnect it from the sending unit or is it not necessary.

I don't know, but when I did it last I removed the fuel line at the carb, removed the gas cap, and blew air into the line.
I was more worried that it would start syphoning because it's a low point. No idea if this step is required or even helpful, but it's what I did. Remember fuel pressure is like 6psi and your air hose could be 150psi, so take it easy.

Whether or not it's the correct way, when I replaced my sending unit a couple months ago I didn't drain the gas or anything I just unplugged everything and swapped them out and didn't have any issues at all. If any gas leaked out it wasn't enough that I remembered it. Good luck!

No need to worry about about spilling fuel, when you break the line loose from the sender a little might leak but not much at all, just be careful with open flames and sparks until you install new sender. Be safe...
