Best Way to Remove Complete Heater & A/C for Repair - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Working thru different issues and making a plan towards getting this 1967 Chevy C20 heater and air working again.

* Since I am having to replace wiring harness (fuse panel was rusty beyond cleaning, etc., from a poor windshield install); trying to take care of heater and start on A/C too. NOT SO EASY from what I read you have to remove passenger side hood hinge and loosen inner fender. Really?

Live in New Orleans area, so need good defroster even on humid summer mornings. And A/C is a good thing here too.

ALL ducting was removed and provided in a box with other parts from 2nd Owner of the "bar find." But that is not complete so ... one thing at a time. First I need to remove heater and A/C to see if any other parts need to be replaced so I can start getting this truck back on the road.

I took the hood off when I did mine and took the front seat out

Ive removed quite a few of them. I always drop the inner fender well and unbolt the hood hinge so that I can get to all the screws easily and not risk breaking a tab.

Yup. Take off the hood and hinges, and the RH inner fender. Then it's easy.

I did mine without "pulling" the hood. with the inner fender removed take all of the screws and nuts off the outer ac piece on the firewall. I removed 2 of the 3 hinge bolts, places a blankets and 2x4 between the hood and cowl behind the air cleaner. I held the hood on the bottom corner and removed the 3rd hinge bolt. I lifted up on the hinge and pulled the ac assembly loose and re installed the hinge bolt. I did this all by myself..... I did the same thing to put it back in BUT I did get help cause it is harder to line up, get the fan motor gasket in ect. me and a buddy did it pretty easily

Getting older and not so enthusiastic about doing the heavie/awkward lifts alone

I see inner fender should be fairly easy to remove and I will grab a Friend or two to lift off and later replace the hood after getting heater box thoroughly gone thru (have heater core checked at radiator shop, etc...).

Going to need help with windshield too.

Just used to wrenching mostly alone as means to relax
