Rebuilt engine issue?

I noticed a small leak on my heater hose on my intake and it sprayed on my carburetor (see attach picture). What causes me a great deal of concern is notice how thick the coolant is and it looks like some kind of sealant to me. I had the engine rebuilt by a local shop. It has 300 miles on the engine and I'm to return it at 500 miles to change the oil to make sure nothing came loose etc... Is this a new practice to put sealant like that in a engine because we didn't do that back in the 80s. Is this to reveal a leak if one occurs? Sorry the picture is sideways and I don't know how to fix it.

Minor issue at best, nothing a few inches of teflon tape would not solve.

No you should have engine coolant only and sometime mechanics will use a water pump conditioner with the antifreeze for extra lubrication for a new water pump but , if new head gaskets were properly installed on a good block using good heads , I don't think it would warrant the use of any type of sealer

I think you first have to make sure this is what you are seeing ,these type of sealers leave deposits everywhere, check your cap and neck of radiator see if its stained that color . these sealer products are very good and work very well for what they are intended

I have used these head gasket sealers 3 times , 2 of the engines were in the 300.000 mile range and the other had about 150k , with all good results that lasted a long time .

You can buy a head gasket Test kit from Napa auto and test your coolant for the presence of exhaust gases if you are concerned .simple easy to do kit to find out if your head gaskets are sealing properly........

When you take it back i would ask too have the cooling system flushed out.
That looks like rusty water but its hard too tell from the pic. Is there antifreeze in it?
Was the block hot tanked?
i wouldnt see a need too add any kind of sealer too a fresh rebuild unless it is on certain fittings. But not in the water/antifreeze mix.
Antifreeze has lubricating properties in it for water pumps.

It's quite evident that no type of sealer (Teflon tape) was used on the fitting with the drip in your picture!

I also see what (toolboxchev) see's that the usage of "Teflon tape" would seal up that leak from the heater/manifold fitting coming from the Heater Box going to your Intake Manifold. I only see a Head to Manifold picture shot Not any part of a Head to Block shot so I don't know where the Head Gasket/ Sealant bit comes from.

That is a normal look for a small leak like that. The a-freeze dries in the air leaving a deposit like that. Take a look at the coolant in the radiator. Look at the inside of the oil cap. If that is OK you have nothing to worry about. It just needs to have the hose fitting removed & a sealer put on it like pipe joint tape or RTV sealer.
