G70 G50 Rear Leaf Spring Lowering

I would like to lower my 71 GMC 1500. Leafs with G50 Heavy Duty Springs. Question , can you remove the overload G50 and get any drop at all ?

I had this same option on my GMC.

The only way to get a drop is to do a flip kit. But, this nets around 6.5" drop with the G50 overload springs removed. And the axle will be about 3" from the frame rails.

I did the DJM flip kit and cut 2" off the stock bump stops. I did not do a c-notch. It sits very nice and requires stiff shocks in the back. I also relocated the rear shocks so that they sit more upright. There are extra holes in the upper shock mounting bracket where you can mount the threaded shock stud.



This shows the picture before I relocated the shock which improved the suspension geometry.



I combined this with a 4" drop in the front. I think that the stance works pretty well.

I did pretty much same thing. The overloads don't have much affect on anything but load carrying as far as height. I removed mine because they hit the CalTracs. I did an ECE disc conversion and used drop spindles and 2" springs in front.

I also relocated rear shocks and used (4) stock length fronts all around.
