63 GMC v6 in a 63 C10?
Found a sweet deal. Someone wants to sell a 305 V6 and can deliver
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/pts/5758252237.html Have a couple questions for the GMC V6 gurus.... Is it possible to install this motor into my 63 Chevy c10? And link it up to a 3 on the tree tranny? I'm assuming that I'll need to change the motor mounts, where can I find the right ones? And radiator? I currently have a 67 250 I6 with a I6 aluminum champion radiator. And is there anything else I would need to know? I think the alternators are on the passenger side of the motor, so I'm gonna have to figure out how to re wire the charging system? And this motor was pulled from a 63 dump truck, the guy told me that it ran great before he pulled it out, but it scary to drop it in mine without knowing if it needs a immediate rebuild or can last for another few years. Alright, so let's start with the Motor.
You'll want to look for 125 PSI in all 6 cylinders and now less than 105 in any of them. Also want to turn the engine by hand to make sure it spins freely and has no stiff spots. Pull the valve covers and make sure all rocker arms are moving as they should. Doing a light rebuild on these is pretty cheap, but the parts are getting a tad hard to find. That price is a steal if the engine is good. Now, Your perches might work, but they will need to be moved no doubt. New motor mounts can be purchased that are single stud instead of double like stock and under $10. That engine may have the larger truck bell housing so you'll want to look into that. Also take a gander at the numbers on the top of the block in front of the passenger side head, that may be a 351C, or E. Will bolt up to the 3 speed with a light duty bell housing. Another thing to remember, These engines used a special clutch disc and pressure plate. The disc is NOT available. But a kit is available that has a disc that is close, but will need some modding which can be done easily enough but is just annoying. You will also need a different thermostat housing, rad hoses, and you'll have to move the regulator to the passenger side. Other than the fact is weighs 800 pounds and is a bear to move around...you should be good. Keep in mind also...the flywheel and clutch assy have to come off before the bell housing will. That's the stupid pos design flaw in these engines.

And I am going to assume that the motor has the larger bell housing because he said it was a 4000 model truck, it might just end up passing because I found another guy that has another v6 that he guarantees has less than 80,000 miles on it and doesn't need a rebuild, he wants $500 for it, I'm gonna go check it out soon.
