Cowboy caddy needs longer front drive shaft...?
Howdy guys and gals,
When we got the caddy, the front driveshaft was out and we'd like to get the 4WD back online for the comin winter season. I believe the shaft was too short to work effectively with the significant lift that is on the vehicle. How do we determine the correct driveshaft length? Can we have the existing shaft modified once we're able to determine the proper length? Any suggestion or info is much appreciated. Thanks! -Heather

Re: Cowboy caddy needs longer front drive shaft...?
Any reputable driveshaft repair/fab shop will have a driveline calculator form that they will require to be completed prior to any work and prepare a cost estimate. Here's the one I have used in the past. It is a local one for me, so shipping has never been considered.
http://azdriveshaft.com/ Click on link for "how to measure" and there are many forms for your specific application.

Re: Cowboy caddy needs longer front drive shaft...?
The drive shaft is "Splined" in the middle so it can get longer or shorter as the suspension articulates. The amount of lift you have will determine how long the splines will be. Usually around 7 inches. Anyone who makes driveshafts will be able to calculate this for you no problem.

Re: Cowboy caddy needs longer front drive shaft...?
Most welding shops do drive shafts. I'd start there. Make sure they balance it as well.
